Changing processors - quick question

It may sound stupid, but in all my years of building my own rigs, I never had the chance to just change the CPUs in my system. So now I'm planning to change my Athlon 2400+ for a 2800+. Will the system autodetect the new processor (like when installing RAM) or I'll have to reinstall everything again?
