I just formatted and set my main HD to a 3 gig partition where i have windows installed and a 27 gig partition where i keep all my stuff. Unfortunatley 3 gigs is not enough and i keep running out of space wehn i try to do anything such as opening a 800 meg .rar file that i am extracting in a differnet drive. Is there anyway to change the partition size of my main C drive that is originally 3 gigs to something more reasonable like 6 gigs?

Do you have any unallocated space on the drive? Or, is it a 30GB drive fully partitioned (3GB & 27GB)?

You can gain more disk space by reducing the size of the Recycle Bin, Shut off Restore and Hibernate.

It is a 30 gig HD fully partitioned into a 3GB and 27GB portion. I will try partition magic and see if it works but i have had problems with it in the past.

I tried to do this last night with my daughters computer. I had xp on c: 2gb, d: programs3gb , e: games 4gb and the rest storage.

for some reason partition magic cannot increase or decrease my operating sytsem partition size.

Tried presizer.exe (freeware) and was able to free up space and physicall move the partitions and create extra space but still i was not able to resize the c: partition.

I think its because I installed xp on a primary disk partiton.--not sure you can resize those.

Finally gave up ghosted my c: d: e: partition

fdisked and made my primary partition 4gb and restored the images-- if I did thjis the first time I would have saved a lot of time

You can resize primary partitions just fine. Most likely you were running PQMagic from inside of Windows, which is never a good idea.

you are right I was using it in windows, will try to run it in dos.

I was able to increase my c: partition by creating a 2gb partition beside the c: and then merging them.

I will try to mess around witht he program in dos.
