Changing Mp3 To Wav

i seem to remember that all I had to do before to do this was making it so I could see file extensions (like .mp3 or .wav), and then changing mp3 to wav. Problem is, I have WinXp now, and have no idea how to view file extensions.

You can't just change the file extension. You have to use something like Winamp's mp3>wav plugin although there are probably better programs that it.

to view the file extention, go to windows explorer or my computer...whatever. click on tools the folder options, then view, uncheck the "hide extentions for known file types"

as far as making mp3 to wav... i use winamp to convert the files. i don't think it's as easy as changing the file type

For shear quickness, Winamps writer plugin kicks ass. Did a 10 minute MP3 file in under 25 seconds and dumped the .wav into the directory of my choice.

similiar question...how do you make an mp3 into one of lower quality?

the winamp one will apply any EQ or other plugins you're running to the wavs, so be careful to turn them off before you convert

Is this plugin already in Winamp, or do I have to download it somewhere? I don't see it...does have a less obvious name than mp3-wav?

If I remember correctly, the wav creator is included with Winamp, you have the option of SELECTING to have it installed when you install Winamp. (And that's if I remember correctly)

And the plugin is called "DiskWriter Plug-In", and it's pretty easy to setup from there. Just be sure to change the plugin back to the original after your done.

I must not be very bright, cause I'm still screwin this up. I opened the mp3 file into winamp. Went into plugins, selected the diskwriter one. Told it to start plug in, it opened some window that didnt seem to do anything, so I closed it. On my desktop (where I told it to put the file), I now have the mp3 file and next to it, the same title except a wav. Cool, it worked, I thought. I click on the wav, and all it does is make a new copy of the wav. I click on the mp3, and it makes another copy of the wav. What's the deal?
