hey I was wondering. my dr thermal is driving me nuts. its soooo loud on my athlon xp 1800 compared to my roommates p3 ghz which doesnt make a sound. I would like to change it, but was wondering if it was feasable since i applied thermal compound to it and the cpu. thanks! (also, if I can change it, I was thinking of getting the alpha 8045 and a panaflo, does it come with thermal compound? if not which should i get?)

Sure, just carefully clean off all the old goop from the cpu with isopropyl alcohol. The new HSF probably comes with some thermal stuff but if you're going to go to the trouble I would get some Arctic Silver 2 or 3. It's the best thermal compound out there. It's a little pricey but a tube will last you a long time.

I have some wax goop around the edges of the core, and it's pretty hard to get off. Do you guys think it'll matter?

try to clean the core off as best u can... you'll get better thermal conduction that way... and u shouldnt have any waxy residue on the core anyways
