Changing FSB

My computer is built on an ABIT KT7A VIA 133A MoBo that has 266 FSB. My AMD T-Bird 1GB also supports 266 FSB. It is embarrising how little I know about this. I have never had good performance with this system. Lots of lock-ups and blue screens. I recently installed SiSoft Sandra. It showed that I had a AMD 750 MHz and was running 200 MHz FSB. What would make my CPU show to be 750 MHz? Would running at 200 MHZ FSB make my CPU show as 750 MHz? I fear that the last tech. may have swapped CPUs. Can some one walk me through setting my FSB at 266 MHZ? I am just as ignorant about all of this as I sound. Help!

i dont know a whole lot about that mobo but if he had a jumper set to 100 fsb instead of 133 it could show that processor as a 750MHz at 200 fsb (7.5 x 100) versus (7.5 x 133 = 997.5 MHz). This may be a setting in your bios or on the board itself.😉

Agree with SuperT, this is most likely a "brainless" tech that set the FSB wrong during setup. Either that or you made the change yourself inadvertantly (of course). 🙂 It's really not too difficult to change. Consult your manual for instructions as to setting up your CPU. On the other hand, numerous lock ups and blue screens can be caused by a myriad of items. Heat, drivers, aggressive settings in the BIOS, hardware trouble, etc, etc, etc. Is there a particular pattern to the lockups and BSOD's?

It sounds like your fsb is @ 100mhz and not 133mhz,I don't know if your MOB has a jumper or it's in the BIOS,but both are easy to fix, first thing I would do is look in the BIOS (don't have to open the case)to see if you can make a change in the fsb setting, most have 100mhz and 133mhz
If you can't change in the BIOS then you will have a jumper
Going from a 100mhz fsb to 133mhz fsb will make your RIG work very good and stop some lockups
look at this if you need info

You were all right on the money on the FSB being set at 200 MHz. Got it changed to 266 MHz and it now shows the CPU to be 1GHz. I appreciate the AandTech forum and you nice knowledgeable people who are willing to help. thanks again!
