Changing from Vista to Windows 7

Is it a pain to switch OS's? When Windows 7 is tested and seems to be okay to run, I plan on switching from Vista to W7.

I want to make sure that I won't have any issues doing it.

Windows 7 is a step up from Vista and runs spectacularly, even on low end and old hardware. You could always buy the upgrade version and just upgrade directly from Vista, but a clean installation is still the preferred method of upgrading.

I know the Beta is out, do you know when they are releasing it fully in market? Cost estimate?

If I did a clean installing, I would lose all my data?

You will need to back your data up first to clean install. In reality, you should already be backing up your important data in case of drive failure. Before you purchase Win 7, you might want to consider purchasing a external drive for backups.

The most credible rumor for the exact date is Oct 15.

I tried the upgrade from Vista route three times. None of them were satisfactory. All sorts of wierdness even with MS Office 2007. No gadgets either.

So, a clean install was next. Perfecto! But, I lost no data or programs in Vista - I used a separate HDD, and can switch between them via mobile rack any time I choose. Viva clean install!

anyone ever use easy transfer wizard?

nevermind it seems it only transfers small files not programs
