Changing Dynamic IP?

Is there anyway to change my IP? I'm living at a college so they use dynamic ip as opposed to static. I was fooling around with ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew but I still get the same IP. Thanks for the help.

Your college network probably has your MAC addressed registered and will continue to assign you the same IP.

Put in a different NIC. The DHCP addresses are delivered based on the MAC address of the DHCP requestor. You could put ni a "Locally Administered Address" - LAA, but it's semi-dangerous you'd be surprised how many people come up with the same "random, unique" addresses.

Good Luck

I see...Scott, please elaborate on the "Locally Administered Address" idea. Thanks for the prompt replies!

Many NICs / drivers will allow you to replace the "burned in" address with one of your choice. Look around in the NIC properties. Again, it's not recommended in an uncontrolled environment.

NICs are cheap, get another NIC.
