Just got my Plextor 12/10/32 scsi drive installed and was wondering if there was a way to change its drive letter under Win2k? It's currently labeled Drive G: but I'd like to set it to F: (which is currently taken by an Iomega Zip250 USB).

Also, is there a utility in Win2k similar to Win98's msconfig.exe? The CD-RW software automatically launches a couple progs on startup, and I'd like to disable those. Thanks in advance!

You can change your drive letters in disk administrator.

There isnt a utility like msconfig in Win2K that Im aware of, but you can go into registry to stop the startups.

You could use a program called RegCleaner. Amongst lots other things, including that what the name suggests, you can remove any program that gets started up at boot like you can with msconfig under w98.

djbacklash,

I have two suggestions:

1. The best utility I've seen specifically for enabling / disabling / temporarily deleting / permanently deleting non-service startup processees in NT and W2K is Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel. It's freeware, and it's available here.

2. Consider carefully whether you syould disable the CD-RW startup programs. At least read up on the matter before you do so. Some packet writing software is pretty sensitive about when and where its concurrent processes are started. I've never seen any of these programs that took any resources except when they were actually in use. All they do is take a spot or two in your Systray.

Regards,
Jim

You could try the Computer Management option under Programs, Acessories, Admin Tools. There should be a Logical Disks branch where you can configure the drive properties.
