I got a device that uses a serial port, but my new Dell computer doesn't have one. So I went out and bought a PCI serial port card and installed it. There is two ports, they took Com6 and Com7. The device I have that uses the serial needs to be on Com 1,2,3 or 4 to work properly because I cannot flash it, and the software I have for it only supports up to com 4. Is there any way I can make it so the PCI serial port card takes Com1 or 2.. they are both free. It's Windows ME.

thanks

You did not say what operating system you are using. Some potential fixes are OS dependent. However the first step is to check you BIOS and make sure that No COM ports are reserved.

Is your BIOS reserving COM1 and COM2?
You do not say what OS you are using.
In Windows NT or Windows 2K you may also have to remove the COM Ports before installing your I/O card.

Check your card to see what jumpers you can set. Try and set it to IO 03f8 and IRQ 03 for com2 and 4....Also check you BIOS, see if it has anything for the com ports in the BIOS.
