changing CMOS battery

wpshooter

Golden Member
I suspect that my CMOS battery may be getting weak. The reason I say this is because one night last
week when I booted my SSD hard drive was not detected. However, on all subsequent boots it has
been detected just fine. Was this just an fluke or is it related to the battery ?

Can I change the battery WITHOUT losing and having to reset all of the various settings to the way that have them set now ?

Thanks.

Yes just dont unplug the psu.
The PSU feeds a 3.3V constant to the board to hold and save settings.
The CMOS battery is just a backup meant to save Time and Settings incase of power out.

So as long as its still plugged in.. (not ON) you can change the battery without losing your settings.

After you replace the battery, check the voltage of the old one to verify that it was the problem.
