Changing casing, any hints?

Just got a brand new Enlight casing, going to move my current PC over into it... as long as I keep all PCI cards in the same slots and USB devices in the exact same ports, Windows won't detect anything and bug me about new devices, right?

Any other hints to make the transition completely invisible to Windows? (Using XP Pro, BTW)

Thats all I would say you had to do. I don't think it matters if you get the PCI card in the wrong place. WinXP will just swap the IRQ's about a bit and locate the drivers as they are already installed. That is of course you have not set up each PCI slot manually in the BIOS! 😉

Make sure when you put your drives in the Ribbon Cables will reach. I forgot about that when I went from a Midi Tower up to a Full Tower...🙂

LOL! That happened to me once too. Had to spend another good 15 minutes to re-arrange everything to taste....

Since you're not actually installing any new devices, it shouldn't say anything. Although in my experience, XP says it has found a new device (my keyboard) every time I restart it. Go figure.

Argh... finally got everything fixed up and now my back hurts. Too much bending over under the table due to all the stupid little mistakes I made. And why oh why did Enlight make their casing sooooooo hard to open??? I nearly broke my fingers trying to pry the front face off! :|

First mistake was to put in my drives too deep inside the bay. That's the problem with the Enlight - you have to pry open the front face to open the casing... so without the front face how the heck was I supposed to judge how deep the drives should go....

Then I realized I got the power switch on the wrong pins.... realized that when the machine couldn't turn on. More bending over and prying open the case.....

Now I got everything running and merrily posting on AnandTech... now I notice my HDD LED isn't blinking! AAAARRGH!!!!!
