Changed the oil in the GTO this weekend

A rather mundane thread topic I guess but it felt good to get under my car and work on it. My back has been effed up since the end of August and I haven't been able to do much physically until around December. Di a whole bunch of physical therapy and got that straightened out now. The fiancee and I bought a house together mid-December so most of December was moving crap in and doing all the little jobs required to make living there easier.

So this weekend I finally had some time to get to the goat's overdue oil changed. It had about 5,800 miles on it since the last one. Dropped in a new bosch filter and 7 qts of Mobile 1 5w-30. The best thing about it was having my own garage that was warm to do the job in. Changing oil in January used to mean a trip to my parents house to borrow their garage with my dad standing over me complaining about how I did it. He's old and retired with nothing better to do. Now I can take my time without anybody bothering me.

Anybody else work on their cars this weekend?

Changed the oil and air filter on the Tundra and that's about it. Easy stuff.
I have a garage too, but the Tundra is a freaking land yacht and doesn't fit entirely length wise in there. Had to leave to door open and it got cold FAST. Even on a dolly and coveralls, it's just that much colder when down on the groud.

Nothing major to report. Still looks the same under there as it did last time except for some squirrel fur. The little grey guy didn't scoot fast enough.

changed the oil in the civic this weekend...was going to use my friend's driveway but it turned out he was having house guests...so i took it to the dealer.

I worked on my motorcycle on Saturday, cleaned and lubed the chain, checked the tire pressure and fluid levels, cleaned up all the shiny bits and then Sunday I rode it 120 miles up into the local mountains for some fun in the twisties.

It is nice having your own house with a garage but I don't bother with my own oil changes...it's just not worth it to me.

I installed the electrical wiring and plug (50A!) for my new TIG welder which will eventually be used for automotive fab work. Does that count? I'm counting it. My legs are killing me from being hunched over in the crawlspace.

I dont know how bosch filters are but I would only use K&N and M1, which are amazing filters, if I had to buy a cheaper one it would be Wix.

But feels good indeed.

I got a horrible curb rash on my 18" 162 style rims on my beemer. People 1000 feet away turned their heads from the horrible sound.

I opened to door to my garage to see if the cars were still there.

Still there.

I'll check on them again next weekend.

I just changed the oil in my Fusion.

Well, ok, I went to do it, and then my girlfriend's father took over on me (I borrow their garage, for the same reason listed in the OP). He's retired and he used to do engine / body work for a living - a really great guy too. He's almost single-handedly restored my Mustang from the ground up, with the exceptions of anything electrical and the few things he doesn't mind me touching. 😛

Changed the starter in my Jeep.
Top bolt was a bitch to get out due to the tight space.
Found out the one I pulled was the original from 1996, still worked but was starting to get really slow to turn over.
All is good now. 🙂

had an awesome saturday. had a party the night before, didnt quite finish all the booze so i woke up and started my man day.

beer and cereal for breakfast, proceeded to change my oil for lunch, then replaced my subframe bushing. pain in the ASSS. fixed the nasty CLUNKK on accelleration though, so i am quite happy with it. Took about 3 hours...2 more than it shoulda but I got it done! ended up drunk by the end, but didn't mind.
very sucessful man day for sure.

Yeah, changed my oil on friday, in western north carolina, outside....14 degrees with an 8 degree windchill. i popped the drainplug and couldn't tell if my fingers hurt because they were cold or because my oil was hot. 😀 Anyway, 1 Fram toughguard, 5 qts of 10W-30 Syntec.

I love working on cars and all, but oil changes just aren't worth the time for me. I have a local repair shop I really trust that does them for 12.99...I can't touch that price with parts alone.

thats including oil?!!?! what the fuck do they put in there? dog shit?

I get my I30 done at this place down the street, its 19.99 for a complete oil change. They even clean my windows and shine my tires 🙂

no seriously though, do they put recycled oil in or what? my oil+filter generally can be had for 20 bucks even with some deal hunting, but i put in reltively decent oil for my car...20w-50 high milage GTX[1984 bmw]...
