sold my 2003 SV1000S on Wednesday last week.

Sunday AM I picked up a 2006 R6 50th Anniversary Edition:

two things


first, the sound. loved the SV's sound through the open Yosh's

second - low end torque. the SV had power on tap at 3000 RPM's

this starts about 6, but really moves above 10....


The R6 is so much lighter and smaller everywehre(which is why I got it) I'm 5' 7" and I was pretty strectched out on the SV.

Due to that, the R6 is way sharper handling. If I could get another SV, I would get a naked for the comphy riding position and keep a 600SS like I got.

If I can get the balls and spare plastics to take this to the track, it should be AMAZING

16K miles, I did the valve adjustment in September along with other maintenance.

fresh coolant, oil/filter change. cleaned the K&N ETC

I did 110 miles on it yesterday and I must admit, my knees and butt are sore

I had dont about 35 miles before I left on that little ride

110 miles is a long way on a sport bike.

I have a naked SV and swapped out the bars for Suburban Machinery type II bars. They are lower and more forward putting my body a bit farther forward when I ride which is a more aggressive riding position. I like it but it is a bit more tiring on longer rides.

I think a naked gen 2SV would make a great stablemate to the R6, although I would probably then be forced to redo the SV suspension....

I want to get an Aprilia Shiver for a daily rider at some point, but its an Aprilia, they are expensive!

I would love a B King, but they are too damn big for my small self.

or a 87 Yamaha FZX-700 but they are getting really hard to find

I dont cross 8 much anyways, no room in town for those speeds

I'm hoping in 2-3 years I can unload it at a good price as long as I take care of it and dont molest it

The Shiver is actually slower than a Suzuki SV650 despite being Italian and a 750cc v-twin. It is a heavy bike. I'd go for the Triumph Street Triple R for about the same money, it would stomp the Shiver easily. I'm keeping an eye out for a lightly used Monster 1100 S or an S4R myself. I've ridden both and they are sweet!

Sweet bike... Have you missed the low-end torque from the SV yet? I ride a Bandit 1200 and I LOVE wheelie inducing/tire burning torque! Those R6s handle like a dream, rode a friends '04 R6 and the handling on that is sublime. My Bandit felt like a boat after that.

the shiver is just sexy, and all reviews I read say the FI is incredbily well done, as well as the suspension.

and its just sexy, sexier than the Street Triple(not that I wouldnt ride one.....) and even rarer.

certainly a S4r is the way to go for a monster, the 4 valves are the only ones worth it imo, otherwise its too much $$ for not enough performance

I never said the Shiver was slow as balls. Fact is it would stomp nearly any 4 wheel cage you'd encounter. Specs have the Monster 1100 S as lighter than the Shiver.

I've ridden the 1100 S but I haven't ridden the Shiver...I'm just going by what I've read in the bike rags. I seem to recall a wet weight of around 450 lbs and performance that was actually slightly worse than an SV650 (this comparison was made in Motor Cyclist magazine, not by me).

I like the Shiver, I've visited my local dealer and sat on one and listened to it purr, and it purrs beautifully. I know about the different riding modes and the excellent chassis and brakes. It is a sweet bike. Just not sure it is the bike for me as I already own a bike that is just as fast.

I loved my SV, but its not what I can an updated bike. its all told tech, the forks, FI, brakes, the shock
