Is it possible to change my username on these forums? If not it is fine.

I don't think he can as long as the search function is FUBAR.

You can use the User CP > Edit Ignore List, type the name in the add box. If it exists, it'll load as a fill-in option.

Probably could also logout and click register I think there is a post-back during that first page to see if the username is available.
