Seems that some people do not "GET IT"

First thing you do when you move to a town is check out its diversity.

When you know the diversity then you will mostly know who the ADS and TV stations will cater and will affect the hiring process.... Or so we hope.

Yes we have seen in recent news the shooting and the town was mostly black and the police force was mostly white. But this is about Annie.

I want to know why Advertising firms do not check the diversity of the towns where they want to sell their wares.

I am sure there is a magazine for companies that chat about trends and such across America yes? It would be like insider info buy shared freely among all companies who sell to customers. If there isn't then there should be one.

so take this biracial kid who complains. Is the town made up of mostly bi-racial kids? If so then yes Target should change their ads to reflect the town.

But then again what if that girl in the photo in question lives in that town?

The Onus is on the parents as it seems they did not educate the young girl....
Or! The parents knew but refused to do anything but let their own daughter "EXPLORE" the process of civic duty. If that is the case then I applaud the parents for doing that and the girl needs a really big BRO FIST for doing that.

But now if the bi racial kid and her family is in a mostly white or mostly black or mostly asian town then she just needs to shut up.

And that is the way I see it.

I just think that the people who complained about this misunderstood the goal of the ads. This was never about advertising the movie...it was about selling the costumes from the movie (with a plug for the movie, of course). This campaign was only 1-2 weeks long, afaik. I saw the ads in my local target and there were different kids on all of them.

Plus, Quvenzhane was doing photo shoots for Armani. I am pretty sure it was mentioned before that Target could not book her for these ads.

idk, people should stop tripping. The clothes were cute! The models looked cute in the clothes. Quvenzhane will still star in that shitty movie (I hate musicals....except for RENT)

Quite frankly I'm appalled that parents want to dress their kids in clothing from such a shitty movie.

that site has an extremely selected picture... a broader image shows a range of girls of different ethnicities modeling the clothes.

of course, the fact that a light-skinned black girl will find modeling work easier than a dark-skinned girl is its own separate issue that isn't isolated to Target.

I'll have to bring this comparison up the next time I hear someone bring up "pictures don't lie" or some similarly ridiculous sentiment. Even a camera only represents a very singular point of view.

Seriously? You're calling racism over a movie with a black girl that was originally damn sure a white girl movie. Christ please keep things like this yourselves race baiters.

The fact that the movie Annie had to be resurrected and demolished into a giant golden piece of shit over racial change is appalling in of itself.

Now if you put a white girl next to the title of a "black girl movie" you are stealing her spotlight lol. Just wow. People wonder why there is racial tension.

I wonder what would happen if The Color Purple was remade starring Jennifer Lawrence & Emma Watson in leading roles...

:D

The ultimate goal is to look at any ad, or any movie role for that matter, and not notice skin color, not care about skin color.

For those who were outraged at Target, it's like, seriously, you declared this movie black property for the advancement of colored people? Isn't it more racist to declare this a black movie and any merchandising products are meant for black children? Are they afraid too many white children might enjoy the movie and the main character and want to dress like her? As if that is a bad thing? Telling a white child here is a movie with an African-American lead role that you can look up to? Or telling the white child this movie is for black children?

I gotta honestly say, as a white person, race relations absolutely confuses the fuck out of me! :D I try to make sense out of it, and it just makes the confusion that much greater.

I see no problem with a black Annie. The problem is they are re-doing too many movies. Footloose and Red Dawn are prime examples.

And every post gets my username attached to it... so I have to stare at it, the Chicago Cubs, 12 was Shawon Dunston's number, 23 Ryne Sandberg's, an African-American, and a white guy, the middle infield during the 80's that I watched every summer as a kid. And it's a reminder of how nice it was back in the day when I was truly ignorant and didn't differentiate between skin color, they were both just equal ballplayers playing a sport I love to watch.

Then I grew up and learned about liberalism & progressivism... such misery...
