In XP you could change location of My Documents in one place and the entire computer and all programs would then think your data drive was your My Documents folder. I used this tutorial: http://www.w7forums.com/change-location-my-documents-folder-t338.html to change My Docs folder in Win7 which it sort of does, but not really. Programs trying to find "My Docs" still look in the old location. For example, I installed Picasa and it told me it couldn't find any photos even though my I: drive is now the My Docs folder and has tons of photos in it. Did I miss a step?

Computer do not have the Brian of people just because you call another location My Document does not mean that the computer can do a human deduction.

Some programs as a setting in their preferences.

Almost all program maintain the last folder used when you employ Save As.

I didn't just "call" another location My Docs. The location was moved. In XP this was seamless. I'm just asking if this has changed in Win7.

Wow, I didn't know you could get a Brian with your computer :awe:. I would settle for a brain that thought like mine. :sneaky:

I bet there is a registry entry for each program of where to use the default save location.

I guess I'm not explaining myself well enough. In XP you could right-click My Docs and go to properties. There you could change path from C:\documents and settings\users\name to just "E:" (like an external HD for example). When you did that, every time you went to "My Documents" in any program at any time, you were taken to "E:". When you do this in Win7 it only seems to change that one folder and other programs still look in old location for My Documents.

When you click the Documents folder (in Win 7) using the libraries you can assign anywhere on any drive as a location. If you just want one location, on another drive for example, open the Documents folder and at the top under Documents library it will say 1 location, or 2 locations, or however many you assign, then cascade those views below. Just click the link for 1 location or 2 locations (whatever you have) and another window will pop up. You then add or remove what you want, and even assign what folder or drive as a default location.
