I did screw up little when I install WinRAR. It override ZIP file icon with its icon. I try to make the icon looks the same for zip file but can't find the "File Type" option under folder options anymore!
Any idea how to get it back? Try free program call iphile but it doesn't work. Try turning UAC off and it also can't override that.

Go to control panel, and type "file type" in the search box at the top right. You should see it as the first option under the Folder Options category.

Don't see option to change icon. Only option to select default program.
What vista version you run?

Ultimate. Are you looking under the Folder Options header in Control Panel? Default Programs is a different header entirely.

Yes, I did look at the folder options and there's no option to change the icon or manage file type (says, I can't find where I could delete a file type).
I will try to post the screen shot here so you get what I'm saying.
I also run Ultimate 32-bit version (RTM).

Consider yourself a reverse engineering pirate criminal by Microsoft Laws. You violate the Eula because you are changing the software Vista itself. FBI is on your door, get out with arms head up !

Just go into WinRAR, select Options>Settings>Integration and uncheck "Associate WinRAR with ZIP". Close WinRAR and Vista will automatically revert to its default ZIP icon. I just did this and its works perfectly.
I also changed the ZIP icon using IPhile and had no problems. I use Ultimate 32-bit. Why did it not work for you? If you got an error message when it starts up, try running as an admin.

It seems in Vista that the OS on its own cannot change the file type icon only. You can only change the program associated with it, which will change the file type icon to the program icon. XP allowed you to change the file type icon only without having to change its default icon.

Well, I tried that and those won't work. It's like the file type "Compressed file" is gone and only ".Zip file" is there. I changed WinRAR to unassociated with .ZIP and everything works but Icon is not original. See here.

Also, iPhile got error message " '' is not a valid integer value." every time I ran. Tried compatibility mode and same thing. When I change icon in iPhile, it looks ok but the change doesn't effect at all (while it is look OK in iphile)

What build did you run? I'm at RTM (build 6000)

You said you used IPhile in compatibility mode. You must also run it as administrator. If you did not, you will get an error message - failed to set data for '''' - and while the icon looks changed in IPhile, you will get this error message when you click apply and it won't change it in Windows.
It definitely works:

The default Zip folder icon is in System32\zipfldr.dll (RTM 6000)

While a zipped folder in Windows is called a Compressed (zipped) Folder filetype:

WinRAR just lumps everything into a .zip, whether it is a pic, file or folder :

I believe I did run as admin. But I will go back home again and try!
Thanks for the hope :)

Oddly, it doesn't work. I still got that " '' is not a valid integer value" error when I run iPhile.
Set iPhile to computability mode (Win XP SP2) and also run as admin.
I even uninstall the WinRAR and still doesn't work.
If anyone can guide me, I will dig into the registry.
