Change Bios CAS latency?

I have a MSI K7T266 Pro-R mobo. I would like to change the CAS latency in the Bios from 2.5 to 2. Has anyone had any problems after they changed these values. Thanks for any help.

it doesnt hurt to try.

what ram are you using? im using pny value and just switched it from SPD (whatever the hell that means) to CAS3 and its alright so far. will try Cas2 tomorrow

Hi LS20,

I'm using 2x 256 MB of Crucial PC2100 DDR ram rated @ 2.5 by Crucial's site (#CT3264Z265). Thanks for the response!! I'll get my nerve up as well and change the CAS rate to 2. Will respond back to you with the results.

Best Regards,

excellent! i have ordered the same memory (1 stick, though) and it should arrive noon today! waiting to hear how it goes =)

if you are using 2 dimms you are more likely to lose stability by lowering the cas timings, as you have 2 chips one may not yeild as high as the other, if you lower the cas latency you will usually only crash when booting into windows, or during 3d operation. So if you crash as a result, you just got back to cas 2.5 and all is well, for better success with this i reccomend one chip.

I changed the CAS latency to 2, and have'nt had any crashes yet, (about 22 hours). Thank you Acanthus, if the system acts up, I will return to the 2.5 latency to keep from burning something up. I'll continue to run here untill the system becomes unstable. It seems to be running fine? Thanks guys!!

everything memory-related in bios set to most aggressive mode...cas2 on cas2.5 rated 256mb ddr...

ran 3dbenchmark... good so far :-D

I have no problems at all running 2 sticks of 256MB Crucial DDRAM at CAS-2 latency on an MSI K7T266-A PRO2 mobo.
