I have a 4-machine network at home sharing a DSL line using AnalogX, which seems to work just fine for most everything I would like to do. I have hit a brick wall when trying to use things like ICUII, MediaPlayer internet radio and some ftp functions on the remote machines, as it is impossible to open the necessary ports.

I have access to a copy of WinProxy 3.0, and am contimplating giving it a try. Comments?

If you are going to evaluate Routing software, then I would also look at Sygate 4.0. Does NAT translation (much cleaner than a proxy server. Supports Linux without any special client software requirements.) On the other hand, with 4 machines, you might want to start looking at a hardware solution. You must already have a hub, so I would seriously consider a hardware router from netgear/linksys/trendnet/etc. I had a trendnet TW100-W1CA which worked pretty well, except it didn't work with IPSEC, a requirement for my company's VPN. So I had to go with a Netgear. With a hardware router, you have less chance of knocking the entire lan off the Net, and I think you get better performance since your router is dedicated to routing data, and doesn't have to concentrate of playing Quake III, writing bills, reading emails, etc, etc.

Of course, all of this is My Everso Humble Opinion....

Yup - using a hub right now.

The DSL modem is connected to one of two NICs on my "server", as I only have one dynamic IP address. Also, I like the idea of being able to control the Internet access of one or more users (kids). Didn't think this would fly with a router. If the router will do the trick, will there be issues opening the appropriate ports for thinks like ICUII?
