Chances of getting a Duron to OC to 133MHz FSB?

I'm looking at buying the ASUS A7V133 and I'm wondering if I was to buy a Duron 700 what are the chances of getting the CPU to run at a FSB speed of 133Mhz?

your chances are very good if that mobo has the VIA KT133A chipset. if it has the A and you have PC133 memory, it will run that speed. my roommate has a 600 running at FSB 133 on a ABIT KT7A-RAID mobo and PC133 ram.

I'm kind of confused on how this works... putting in the Duron will the motherboard default to a 200MHz FSB or will it automatically try to run the Duron at 266Mhz? Do I have to unlock the L1 bridges or is this purely a BIOS settting I can switch to?

You should unlock the bridges so you can more control over your multiplier. In your case, the 7X shouldn't be too high, but if you have a 900 or something... you may have to lower the multiplier then bring up the FSB.

But the Duron CPU itself should have no problem running at 266Mhz FSB even though it was designed to run at 200Mhz FSB?

it all depends on the quality of the chip you've got...My Duron 700 runs at 933 perfectly but if i bump it up to 950+ it'll crash every once in a while. You never know until you try it out...I wanna say that most duron 700's can do at least 900~950 so your chances are pretty good. Just get a nice heatsink/fan and keep the voltage up and ya should be ok with the KT133A

bishboi whatever you do make sure you are buying a motherboard with the KT133A chipset. Yes you'll be running at 266 frontside bus with a Duron at a 133MHz bus. Just plan on upping the voltage to get there. A 7xmultiplier is a great place to start and should be do-able for the 700MHz Duron.

Yeah, I know which motherboards to get.

Like I said I'll be getting an ASUS A7V133 (which is KT133A), and my HSF will be a GlobalWin FOP32-1 (which is adequte I believe.)

I just gotta be sure that when I stick that CPU in it will run at 266MHz FSB vs 200. OC'ing it to 900+ MHz wouldnt' be bad either. I don't want to have to return it.

It's either that or just get an A7V and a Thunderbird 850.

Save your money and get the A7V133 and Thunderbird 850. You'll be happier later. I'd recommened getting a Iwill KK266 instead, I've had experience with both.

DON'T USE THE JUMPERFREE MODE ON ASUS A7V133...
IT SUCKS!

Use standard jumper switches, and you'll be a lot happier.
