Guys I have yet another opportunity to buy a 7970 cheap but I really like physX. I know there have been physX hacks but recently I saw it where the guy that was behind all of it no longer is updating anything. Can anyone please point me in the right direction in terms of the most up to date info. on the physX hack ? Has anyone taken over the project ?

If you like GPU PhysX that much then you have to go with an Nvidia Solution unless you like using or want to use hacks.

I didn't know Physx actually offered anything that would steer anyone away from AMD. Can anyone elaborate on the actual in-game differences/benefits of Physx vs. Non-Physx gaming? Does Physx make games THAT much more enjoyable...or more enjoyable to stay with Nvidia?

Well, in the pursuit of the best image quality, you'd want physx ideally for the games you have it in, just so you're using every bit of your investment. Whether that's worth more than maybe a $50 difference for an AMD card compared to a nVidia card is up to the user.

Personally, if the 7970 was a lot cheaper than the 680, I would spend the money towards an older nVidia card such as a 260 or a similarly performing card under $50. It's not the best solution but it's been discussed for BL2 at least:

Or just get a GTX 670 and call it a day.

it makes more difference than an extra 5fps for when AMD has an advantage. i just watched a youtube video on it

You make it sound like PhysX is a free ride. 5fps eh? The discussion in THIS link sure makes it seem like there's more than just a 5fps penalty with PhysX. I'm not saying that PhysX is not worth having, but don't make it sound like something it's not.

If you really like Physx then I'd just go with an Nvidia solution. No use taking a deal but being unhappy with it. Personally, I couldn't give a rats ass about Physx. I find it to be useless. In Borderlands 2, I even find it obnoxiously overdone and distracting from the game.

Its like anything you get used to. When its not there, you notice it (and I have only three hardware PhysX titles). If you're always had ATI/AMD, you don't miss what you've never had. If it means that much for you OP, go Nvidia.

I use physx with an amd card for borderlands 2, I had to turn it on through the game files, but it still works the same

I went to a 7970 from a GTX 670. Don't miss it. The only PhysX that looked good to me was Batman Arkham City.
