Chance of 6600 GT 256MB AGP

I know this is pure speculation at this point. With that grain of salt thrown out there....

What does everyone think of the chance of a 6600 GT 256MB AGP video card coming out?

I haven't seen any 6600 GT 256MB PCI-E cards, thats why I ask.

I'm not sure why everybody seems to want one. The 6600GT is hamstrung mostly by the 128-bit memory interface (and corresponding lack of bandwidth), not the amount of memory it has. With the low bandwidth (the memory interface is slower than the one on a 9800Pro!), it's not going to be real fast at 1600x1200 with AA/AF anyway, which is the only place that 256MB of memory generally does much for you.

Digit-life even tested the ASUS V9999 256MB 6800NU at the same clocks as regular 128MB 6800NU. The extra memory doesn't help all that much -- it's faster in a few games at 1600x1200 with AA and AF enabled, but only in one case (Unreal II) was it significantly more playable than the 128MB card. In most games either there was no difference, or it was unplayably slow even with 256MB of RAM. I see no good reason that the 6600GT (which has about the same fillrate as the 6800NU, but way less memory bandwidth) would be any different. link

Thanks bigal40!

Matthias99, correct me if I'm wrong but what if I had a game that could use that extra 128MB for textures (i.e. Everquest2)?

It would not be able to use the memory to its full potential. It might hel performance a little bit.
