To acquire All-Pro talent, the Rams had to give up 3 draft picks and Jared Goff. You can keep calling that a fire sale, but that's not what it is. Instead, the Rams went all-in on this Super Bowl. There is no next year or year after, it's now or bust.
That's exactly what I meant to say, nothing else. My choice of the term "fire sale" was lest than perfect. Nothing else came to mind. I can be eloquent at times, at other times the words elude me. "Fire sale" suggests selling things cheap. Arguably they undervalued those draft picks, so I don't think I was all that off there, but yes it was an improper use of the term.

I'm not saying they're huge underdogs to the Rams. I'm saying they are the biggest underdogs to win the Super Bowl of the final eight. I think only 2 or 3 playoff teams this year were bigger underdogs to win the SB.
The Bengals had the longest odds, and were therefore the biggest underdogs, going into the divisional round. Again, Cinderella team = Bengals team that is going to its first conference championship in 34 years, not the team that was in the Super Bowl two years ago.

A 4 seed had longer odds than a six seed? I find that hard to believe.

These NFL playoffs threads have been weird. When given objective positions that aren't all that controversial, people instead would rather cling to alternative facts and narratives. Like the Niners are some miracle team or the Rams had a "fire sale" by acquiring Matt Stafford, Von Miller, and OBJ. :tearsofjoy: There have been others as well.

A 4 seed had longer odds than a six seed? I find that hard to believe.
Right now the Bengals have the longest odds to win the Super Bowl, +800.
The Niners are +450, which implies about an 18% probability. It's not extremely likely, but crazier things have happened in sports.
I don't have the Super Bowl odds from a week ago in front of me, but I suspect the Bengals had longer odds then.

Nobody is disputing that the Niners have pulled off upsets just to get here. What we're saying is the body of evidence is that they're a pretty good team that deserves to have gotten this far. Like I said, they're one of the few teams with a top 10 offense and defense. That is usually a recipe for success in the playoffs. Although in hindsight it's easy to say the Cowboys and Packers are "overrated," that's just a weird way of diminishing the Niners' current run.

If the Rams win, nobody should be surprised. If the Niners win, we also shouldn't be too surprised. Again, they're underdogs but they belong.

One last thing, going solely from memory; in the preseason, the SB favorites were the Chiefs and Bucs, followed by the Bills. Behind these top contenders were the Packers, Rams and Niners with roughly similar odds. I think the Ravens were in this pack as well. Point being, although the Niners took a winding road to get to the NFC champ game, even in the preseason they were seen as a top 9 team.

Thanks for the link. It is strange to me that the odds switched after wildcard weekend:

I assume it has to do with which teams were eliminated.

Changed my picks to Bengals and Rams. Might flip-flop on the NFC team but I am locking it in for the AFC.

The Quarterback God of the Ground will defeat the Quarterback God of the Flames.

LOL.... I'm sticking with KC (who I picked to win the SB) BUT I've jumped onto the 49'ers bandwagon!

After much meditation, I have realized Burrow is not a living qb, but rather an undead. He cannot be slayed by normal means(pass rush creating happy feet and rushed decisions, which even the great Tom Brady could not escape from).

Bury him, and he will simply rise up from his grave again and again.

The ONE thing that makes me hesitant to root for the Bengals is that we'll all have to listen to you gloat endlessly if they do pull it off!

Well, i did say that Burrow will be one of the four arbiters of fate in the AFC and poor Josh Allen is not one of them(nor will Lamar). ;)

And I did warn everyone in this thread I WILL be insufferable if he wins it all.

And indirectly, it's all Washington's fault because they took out Burrow's knee, which then allow them to suck and get Chase. ;)
(And Jimmy G, because if San Fran had Chase instead of Lance...)

These Bengals did beat KC already, so the intimidation factor is NOT there, including an amazing 3rd and 27 conversion in that game.

KC was banged up and not firing on all cylinders especially on defense in that game also they were on the road in a game that meant a whole lot to the Bengals but very little to the Chiefs.

You never know though .... the Giants went into SB XLII a 12 point underdog and we know how that worked out. If Cinn makes it to the big game I bet the spread is smaller then in '08.

What's amazing to me is that before the regular season began, the Bengals had the 4th longest odds to win the Super Bowl. Even worse than the Jags! They've already vastly exceeded expectations, and you calling them Cinderella is even more appropriate.

There are at least a couple factors. Before the wild card games, the Niners were a 6th seed and had a long road to the Super Bowl. It's not impossible, but a wild card team winning 3 straight on the road to get to the SB is rare. Now that the Niners have two quality wins under their belts, bettors have adjusted expectations accordingly. Beating the Cowboys and Packers is a lot more impressive than outlasting the Raiders and Titans.

Match-ups also matter. The top two teams in the NFC were eliminated, so one could argue the Niners are left to face a rival that they have much experience beating. Meanwhile, the Bengals have to face the hot Chiefs (despite a week 17 hiccup). I'd argue that the week 17 loss to the Bengals is good for KC; they won't underestimate their opponent.

I normally don't make predictions, but the Chiefs feel like a team of destiny and I think they will overpower the Bengals on Sunday.

Well, Burrow apparently is not intimidated by the loudness of Arrowhead in the slightest.

We shall see if it is delusion or if he actually can handle that environment.

LA vs KC, with the Rams winning the SB. That's my first prediction all season, which has been very hard for me. It's so easy to gamble here now, but I didn't this season. Go me!!

Given whose list that is, story checks out.
Voice and charisma matters and that Texas accent is charming as fuck. :D

(I am sorry Northerners, but the southern cadence is far superior. Now, that could be genetic as my Chinese mom totally digs country music)

I'm picking no one. I figure all 4 teams have good chances.
