Similar thing happened to me in Austin. My friend and I was heading to a new year's party and we passed by a supra (that was in the far right lane) and it was driving under the speed limit for a while for some reason. Then after a few miles, it sped up to us and matched our speed but we knew we wouldn't ever beat it since we were in a beat up 94 Sentra. Then it got bored and just sped off.

Meh. Seriously on my budget as a college kid, all I need is a dependable car with low gas mileage . . . and as for pride in my manhood, this is all I need. *Points to crotch*

:Q

Hey where did it go . . ..

Check just outside your car. When you get in it, it falls off :) Sometimes it doesn't find its way back home when you get out :p

Yeah, a Viper wanted to race me one time. Craziness. I pointed out at the big muddy field, popped the Expedition in 4 WHD and took off. Well, he smashes the thorttle, dumps the clutch at like 6000 RPM. Nothing but smoking Michelins and the roar or 500 HP screaming for vengeance against my lowly Ford. Down the ditch he goes comin after me. The Expo hit the mud, sunk in about a foot then the Posi kicked in hard. All 4 diggin deep, the V8 growling defiance against the Dodge powered Viper. Mud flew, wheels turned and slowly the Expo drug itself up on top and clawed across the soft landscape. The Viper hit the mud, dropped 6 inches when the bumper caught. Off it comes, torn from its mountings like so much cheap plastic. The V10 beast howled in protest to being pulled on. The big tires grabbed mud and threw it helter skelter in anger. The Viper lumbered up out of the mud and across the feilds in pursuit.....

in the end, the Expo won by about 2 car lengths. I figure it was due to the mud, it really slowed the Viper down. unfortunately, the VIper did lose his bumper and half his exhaust, the low ground clearance really hindered him going through the trees. Ah well, it was a good race nonetheless.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not sayin its slow! You get a good driver, it'll run like a raped ape with the best of them. But, its forte is corner carvin

the SS isn't THAT slow around the track.

I like NSX's too - they're tasty like chicken.. :D

I've had to school 2 of them on the ways of the Turbo Buick. Fun stuff!

It's definitely not about the speed when it comes to the NSX. It's the mid engined, rear-wheel drive, all aluminum body and a high revving 6-cyl engine that takes many pages out of F1 cars that makes it so great. Edmunds called it the best handling car today in a comparison test with a Viper, Z06, and Porsche 911..

And I'm not sure when they were updated but the newer ones have 290 hp, and ran run the 1/4 in the low to mid 13's.

And if the fact that it's not *that* fast concerns you, let's just say that the engine, drivetrain and body weren't the only thing they borrowed from their F1 program :p

I'd gladly give my left nut to own a 2003 NSX 6-speed in Long Beach Blue Pearl :)

Oh I'm not saying the SS is slow! Not by any stretch. I'm just saying there are fundamental design differences between the two. If someone says lets race a long straight track, I'll hop in the SS. If they say lets do some twisty narrow mountain pass.....NSX

I wouldn't mind having one for the looks though.
The idea of the NSX, afaik, is to be a daily-driveable semiexotic 'supercar'. There's more footrom and better gas mileage, etc...

I've driven an NSX...When you go on the highway it's just amazing...Can't tell you're going 90...I personally drive a 3.2 TL now...I am happier with that because there's more room but if i could get the NSX...no doubt in my mind that i would get it...

Great story, made me feel like I was there.

I get pwned by everyone too unless there's traffic and some people just don't know how to drive.
4runner only goes 107mph before limiter kicks in.

That about sums it up for a Viper driver being stupid enough to race you in a big muddy field.

Yeah, the motor is solid, no arguments there. The fact remains, how can one not poke fun at a Pinto?

I used to have a '73 Pinto. Loved it! It was our Tijuana trip car. Even got pulled over in it in TJ several times. Just flash the empty wallet, and get let go. Nobody with money would be driving a Pinto, right? Bwahahahahaha
