Chaintech vs Abit

With recent news, I wouldn't want to buy a motherboard from abit, in case of the motherboard not working and abit has gone under or being bought up.
 
So you definately want PCI-E?

IMO unless there are features with the NF3, NF4 that you want I'd just go with the Via K8T800/890.
I was kinda in the same situation as you. Should I get an NF3 or get the Via. The performance difference is negligible at best with the Via vs. NF3, same with AGP vs. PCI-E so I went with the Abit AV8.

Buy by features i'd say, but the AX8 is awesome. That is the one I'd go with. Can't go wrong with Abit stuff, my favorite manufacturer hands down.

Wow that is interesting news! Maybe that is why they no longer make Nvidia video cards (too bad, they were great)

I just bought an AV8 and I love the thing. I have had an overclocked BH-6 since 1997 and it has been wonderful!
 
For now, decide on price/features, though I wouldn't buy Abit until we see how their situation plays out.

they still make nvidia graphics cards... I think you mean 3dfx.
 
What I like about the ABIT board is that it uses a 20-pin ATX connector + 4-pin molex, so I don't have to dump my current PSU. Hopefully they will keep this for their K8T890 + VT8251 board, as that is what I might be interested in.
 
Chaintech is sweet, cheap, and not to mention available. I'd get that because who knows when the Abit will actually come out.

No, they dumped Nvidia stuff dude. They make exclusively ATI now, which is LAME. They used to make both. They even dumped their OTES on the ATI cards, which is even worse.

Had a Ti4600 OTES and an FX5600 OTES from Abit and they were the best damn video cards ever. That was the best cooling solution hands down. It was an NV silencer but better. I loved to feel that hot air coming out of the back of the case!
 
That article was posted back in November 2003. ABit is still around and they make very good boards.
I would go for ABit personally rather than Chaintech.

Chaintech had good reputation before. But they are playing rebate old trick. Be aware of it, If you like their product, buy it without rebate. Cause you will never get your rebate. Worse than SOYO.
