I have a Chaintech VNF4 939 mobo. It says on the front of the motherboard box:

"HyperTransport bandwith allows for up to a 1 gigaherz (2000MT/S) CPU-Northbridge link"

Now I go look at the 4200+ 939 processor at newegg and I see the it lists the HyperTransport at 2000MHZ.

So does this mean I can't use it (or will have to use the chip at only half its rated speed since I only have 1/2 of the 2000MHZ available?

Any workarounds? Or if there are none what is the best chip I can get in my 939?

Thanks alot.

Thanks coolness.

You basing your conclusion just on the fact that 939s can generally handle X2s? I'm worried because people have often fried their mobos updating the chaintech bios. It says it right there on the chaintech bios page. And their motherboard-chip support page is so screwed up I can't tell what processors it supports with or without the bios upgrade, so I don't want to try it for nothing and then end up with a dead computer.

Thanks a bunch.

Thanks bradley. I've been reading up, and I've seen a tons of threads dealing with both procedures for updating and problems that can cause your machine to blank out.

So I wanted to check what BIOS I had to hopefully avoid the risk.

So, following instructions from another site as to how to check your bios version, I did start--all programs--accessories--system tools--system informatoin.

Under the "Value" column for BIOS Version/Date it says "Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00PG, 12/29/2004.

Is that 6.0 my bios version? If so I should be golden--from what I've read version 5.0 is all thats needed to support the dual cores (but damn I wasnt even aware there was a 6.0 out there).

Thanks again.
