Does anybody know if you can have front jack options along with rear sound also? The manual is not real clear on this. Should I just pull the rear audio default jumpers and connect everything up?

Hmm. Good question, it does sound like pulling the jumper will let you find out. :D

On a side note, I did find out the maker of the audio chip has a more recent driver than the one on the CD that shipped with the board (at least for XP).

Link to C-Media CMI9761 Audio drivers

The 'tuning' softtware and media player are kinda cheezy, but the sound is pretty good.

Did this work? I'm having the same problem.

I hooked up the front panel audio how it was described in the manual, but now get no audio out of the back panel audiojack (built into the MB).

I'm hoping there is a way to set this up in such a way that sound will come out of the back panel unless I plug my headphones into the front panel (how my old dell system worked).

Also, my chaintech media card won't put out sound either, I installed the drivers but still no go, the only sound I'm getting is out of the front panel audio jack of my case.

Any help would be appreciated.

The mother board manual states

This connector gives you the option of a front-panel audio-jack cable ext. to be plugged into a special custom designed system case. Simply remove the two jumper caps at pins 5-6 and 9-10 then plug it into the option cable ext. connector. Pins [5-6] and [9-10] are shorted to enable the back-panel audio function.

So i guess what I need is a way to short pins [5-6] and [9-10], while still plugging in the front panel audio cables. The problem is that the front panel audio connectors are single pin connectors, and one connects to pin 5 and one connects to pin 9, so I can't short 5-6 and 9-10.

Still looking for a way around this, thanks.

My Antec Super LAN Boy case has loopbacks for the "return" lines. Two things I noticed for my particular setup (using an MSI PT880 motherboard) is that hooking it up "properly" gives me reversed stereo from the front headphone jack and also if headphones are hooked up, I don't get output from the rear jack.

If your case doesn't have the "return" loopbacks, you can improvise by looping some wire around the twin pins. This should leave room for the single pin connectors to still be connected.

Hmm I thought the pins were for getting over 2 channels of sound... My rear sound worked fine on my znf3-150 with the front audio ports of the cbox3 hooked up.... maybe it's something special the the cbox3?

Damnit, I was just reading the manual and was afraid of this. I suppose I'll leave the front audio cable disconnected.

Jrad, you wouldn't happen to know how to attach the front usb cables or front firewire cables to the motherboard would you? For the usb cables, there are two rows on the motherboard, but my usb cable only has one row. I just connected it to the row with five pins vs. the row with four pins. The manual for this thing is TERRIBLE.

Update: It doesn't look like there's a firewire set of pins for me to connect to.

* Four 3x1 pin fan connectors
* 5x2 pin USB connector for additional 2 USB ports
* 3x1 pin wake on LAN connector with housing
* 3x1 pin wake on Modem connector with housing
* Two 4x1 pin CD-in connectors with housing on CMC5.1
* 4x1 pin Aux-in connector with housing on CMC5.1
* 9x2 pin front panel connector
* 5x2 pin front side audio connector
* 20 pin ATX Power connector
* 4 pin ATX 12V Power connector

Ugh...

i'm using the spdif out to my cambridge system and the front panel connectors... i don't get sound out of my rear speakers either ...

Anyone have problems with getting the volume control to work? My volume only changes with wave control ... My keyboard volume control changes the VOLUME control ... but it doesn't have an effect on the sound... didn't have any problems with my sblive plat.

Thanks...

actually , i just connected analog cables to the front and rear jacks and they work fine, even with the front panel connected ... just make sure the settings are for 5.1 or quad speakers.

It's just wierd that the freakin spdif doesn't have rear sound or center ... just 2.1... so i connected spdif and the front and rear jacks and the front panel :)

the sound quality is noticeably different from my sblive plat series. It's duller and lacks mid range ... the highs are really good, my sub got worse ... but it's do-able ... to live with

sup with this sound card ...
My center is my left front speaker ... my sub is my center and my rears are fine when plugging into the spdif / center/base/ surround

when connecting to analog ... the rears don't work ... it's like electronic muffle

anyone get it to work properly with 5.1 speakers?
