Chaintech GeForce 6600 $145 + $5 shipping at Newegg

Seems pretty good combination of price, memory (and bandwidth) and AGP.

EDIT: As the thread shows, it is unknown if this is a 64 or 128-bit part. Picture of the box at Newegg shows both, the description does state 128 though. Just a warning. Manufacturer's website is rather useless.

I think only the 6800's are 256 bit.

6600 are supposedly only 128 bit, 6200's are supposed to swing either 64/128.

check out tom's its better than a x600 pro and xt generally but not as good as the x700. not a bad card for the price

Yup. The box at NewEgg does say that it's only 64 bit even though the item description claims 128 bits--and the box does say 6600. So, there must be some 64 bit 6600 cards out there! That's just awful news. I sure hope there aren't any 64 bit 6600gt's on the market. Whether that particular Chaintech is 128 bits (item description at NewEgg) or 64 bits (box fo the very same item at NewEgg) we don't know.

So, now everyone needs to be very, very careful before ordering a plain 6200 or 6600 and possibly even a 6600gt. It's too bad nVidia won't structure its licensing deals to require the 64 bit cards to be called 6100's or 6500's. The 64 bit game really needs to stop.

True dat.

The box on ZipZoomFly shows 128 bit. It looks like the 128 MB card is 64 bit. The box on NewEgg is for the 128 MB. I just ordered it from ZipZoomFly, I figured that either way it's gotta be better than my mx420.

I think Newegg is displaying the wrong box. If you look at it, just above the 64bit, it says 128MB, and the description, model #, and detailed specifications all say 256MB.

Has anyone contacted newegg to see which one it really is?

EDIT2: Okay, it appears the picture at Newegg is of the neutered 128 MB, 64 bit part, but still unclear at this point.

I sent an email to new egg about this:

I've got a question about Item # N82E16814145112, "Chaintech nVIDIA GeForce 6600 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, AGP 8X, Model "SA6600" -RETAIL".

The description and specs state it's 128-bit, but the picture of the box says it's 64-bit. Can you verify which one it is?

Thank you,
Mike

and their reply:

Dear Mike,

Thank you for contacting Newegg.

All the information you see on our site comes straight from the manufacturer. The info on our item description we can guarantee. Unfortunately, the information that is not specified will have to be obtained from the manufacturer.

Based on this, I'd say its the 128bit card.

Hard to tell whether it's a 128 bit or 64 bit from NewEgg's cryptic response. If the description says it's 128 bit, is it then safe to assume it's 128 bit based on what the e-mail said?

Maybe. But 256MB GT cards are hard to find, and it appears that 256 MB might be more of a futureproofing method than pure speed issues.

And they cost more. 🙂
