Chaintech AV-710

I've been pointed towards the AV-710 in terms of a nice 2.1 soundcard... however there seems to be complaints (lots of them) on Newegg. I know that most of them are from 5.1 users and such, and I'm getting a MX5021 (2.1), but I also see complaints about sound quality and such...

What exactly does this mean for me? Although I do appreciate sound quality, I also game quite often... will this be bad?

This is NOT a gaming card, and I have to admit the drivers does suck.

but if you use it for only 2.1 or for the digital out only, then this card is really good for its price

How will it affect my game if I use it? Will it drain my system resources? I don't quite care for extreme game sound, as long as it plays normally and I don't have to sacrifice too much sound quality.

I game on this card and it's awesome. Unless you're a real audiophile, you won't notice a difference. This card uses the envy24ht (I believe) chipset which has had HIGHLY good reviews from folks over at head-fi.org. People put this card over Audigys because it sounds better (all a matter of opinion I know, but the majority believe so) and there are SO many mods to this card to get it to sound the way you want.

I have this card also, and it works just fine. I only use analog stereo out and not any surround or EAX. All I wanted was clean output and this card does it, plus it's one of the few that has headers for front audio ports.
