Chaintech AV-710

Does anyone here have a chaintech av-710? I bought a surround sound decoder recently that has an S/P DIF input, and I wanted to use the S/P DIF output on my nForce3 board, but apparently it only outputs full surround when it is playing a DVD (or AC3 audio). Anyone know if the AV-710 outputs full surround on the S/PDIF for games in addition to DVDs?

I don't use the 5.1 capabilities of my AV-710 but it has an optical port on the back which is exactly what you want, it's for digital surround sound, and should work great.

Unfortunately, that was not his question.

No, you will not get 5.1 sound from games. It will output 2-channel stereo PCM from any source that is not already encoded in DD5.1. The only consumer-level DD encoder solution currently available is SoundStorm on some NVIDIA NForce2 motherboards.

There may be some other solutions coming along sometime soon...

You cannot use the soundcard for anything more than 2 channel in games? It's a good thing I don't have room for more than 2 speakers 🙂
