I never heard of an XP 2900+
It's not listed on Pricewatch.

This looks like a good deal though

I've not done a rebate from a TD purchase before... in fact, I haven't bought anything from TD in years...
but if it's a TD rebate, based on posts made by others who have had rebate experiences with TD, I'd be at least a little concerned about actually getting a rebate check back...

Yeah figuring that the TD rebates are usually go AWOL and the fact the bundle comes with a 2900 ill probably pass this deal up.

This cpu seems to be a 2800+ Barton. But instead of running on the 333mhz fsb like the 2800+ it runs on the 400mhz fsb. And 2.0ghz instead of 2.08ghz. So, that seems to be what this is :)

I would NOT buy anything from this place though. The poster definitely needs to put Tiger Direct in the title.

I still think no one should be allowed to post any so-called Tiger Direct deals anyways :)

There are two rebates. One "appears" to be from Chaintech and the other is at Onrebate.com. Neither of them invokes a lot of confidence but one requires the original UPC and the other a copy so it should work out. YMMV.

It is indeed a 2900. Google it.

The 2900+ was an OEM chip (mostly for HP/Compaq) that runs @ 200*10 = 2.0Ghz.

That was found at AMD Processor Support Forum

The 2800+ does run @ 2.08Ghz, but it has a slower FSB. The 2900+ runs @ 2.0Ghz, but has a faster FSB.

Chaintec seems pretty good as I got a Chaintec rebate in about 6 weeks recently. It looks more like $139 after rebates with $40 from Chanitec actaully showing and the other being lost.

If you have a cheap proc somwhere, this mobo is only $30 after rebates by itslef.

This deal was tempting enough to make me try to control my gag reflex in doing business with Tiger Direct. That was until I saw that I got the special privilige of paying sales tax because I live in Florida and an inflated $14 for s&h for UPS ground. Couple that with the $80 rebate risk...well I finally came to my senses. What was I thinking of? I would gladly spend another $15-$20 and pay a reasonable price for this combination straight up rather than deal with TD.

BTW, if you read the small print on the CPU warranty, it says you also have to buy a heatsink and fan from Tiger Direct in order to return the CPU, even if it is DOA. So keep that in mind before you jump on this "hot" deal.

Would help if people read the threads, and read my post about how its an OEM CPU Made for HP/Compaq primarily.

I have a Shuttle AN35N-U and Thoroughbred 2700+ (333FSB I think) that I haven't even taken out of the packages yet. If it worked out, the TD deal sounds better considering the mobo has SATA (mine doesnt), and the better CPU.

If you can't change multipliers, doesn't the 400Mhz CPU leave less room for overclocking FSB vs. a 333Mhz CPU?

Anyone know how well Onrebate.com or Chaintech come through on MIR's?

LOL, XP 2900+ is an overclocked XP2500+ Barton. They're both 166FSB. I don't think you can buy a 2900+ in retail, or new... I wonder how Tiger got ahold of a decent supply of them?

However, thats warning sign #2. Warning sign #1 is that this is Tiger Direct WITH a rebate. Uhh ohh.

xp2900+ is 2ghz thoroughbred 400fsb

see http://www.c627627.com/AMD/AthlonXP/

far as tigerdirect.. people who are screwed or screwed themselfs are those who yell loudest

people with positive experiances usually dont have much to say.. but I will

ive purchased half dozen products from tigerdirect that have rebates... ALL went through painlessly, easy and fast

I beleive the rebates that are onrebate.com company are directly associated with tigerdirect and those are the 6 rebates im refering to

ive also had another half dozen rebates from products ive purchased from tigerdirect that were through other companys all went fine also, 2 were rejected I had provided the wrong serial number... a simple form and a couple weeks later and it was all corrected....

Ive never had a single rebate problem with any company ive done business with and alot of them are the ones everyone bashes here, i think the problem is....

A: #1 people dont read and follow instructions properly, and read/understand process properly
B: people are impatient
C: people are mad they didnt follow directions properly and blaim it on the company

Receiving time of rebates is not (example) 10wks from the day you mailed it out, its 10wks from the last submission day allowed for the rebates. You are loaning them money in a rebate so they have capitol in order to receive a great deal. People are human, you are human, they are human, you both make mistakes. You get more flys with honey then vinegar. Be patient and nice, expect to wait, and occasionally expect an extra step like resubmission or a phonecall if you or they have made a mistake.

:D
