I have a Chaintech 7NIL1 motherboard, a Samsung SV4084H hard drive, and the IDE cable that came with the motherboard.
Neither Windows 98 nor Linux can make this combination do DMA for some bizarre reason.
I checked the BIOS, and everything's good. I've got the latest BIOS flashed.
I ran the tests Microsoft recommends, and they confirm that the drive is capable of DMA and of the multi-word modes that Windows expects.
Anybody got any ideas? I even tried disconnecting my ZIP drive from the same cable, and changing my parallel port to SPP so it doesn't use a DMA.
