Had assembled an acrylic Micro-ATX case with said board several months ago and had boot-up issues where there wasn't any video and the speaker was making like the European style of siren sounds. Took it apart and set it aside to do something else.

After reworking some case fitting problems and wanting to get something of mine together (have three systems ?running? that do not belong to me! ) went back to this system. Also needed something to test several ATI cards I have (the other systems have nVidia drivers). Knew there might be some system issues so it is together but not in the case. You know kinda sorta have the parts laying around and connected.

Now at start up I still do not have video (tried three cards) and the power led ?flashes?. Also noticed on the first card I tried (Tyan 9700 Pro) its cooling fan would start and then stop, thinking it was part of their "speed control" stuff I ignored it. However as long as the system reset button was "in contact" it ran!! So after checking everything to make sure they appear to be connected correctly I restart the system. New weird stuff >> besides "flashing" the power led will stay on after I ?power off? and will only turn off when the PSU is unplugged. Oh ya, the siren is back too.

Also noticed when I plug the PSU back up the Power led will light and I here what sounds like several simulations "clicks".

Any ideas as the board is way past warranty (think it was purchased January ? March of ?04). Could this go back to that trace I thought I FUBARed near one of the NB fan ?pegs??

THEN LATER:
Okay swapped out the board with a used one I had picked up on ebay, reset everything (cpu & hsf "looked" okay, but who knows) and wala it's alive!!! but what a minute, stupidity strikes again!!

While going through the folders on the hdd, for ati users I see an evil word! nVidia So not want driver conflicts with the ati cards I'll be using into the "add/delete" realm I fly. Delete the audio file and then realize these are the mobo drivers!

So no big deal just add it back with the driver cd. Except now when xp loads it drags, gets to where it will ask for the password, and the screen goes into sleep mode and all hdd activity stops.

WHAT HAVE I DONE NOW??

The LED on the motherboard itself is the same as the POWER LED.
It just indicates there is power to the motherboard.

Seeing as the board is an nVidia base nForce2 motherboard, there
would be nVidia drivers.

The POWER LED Flashing would indicate there is either an issue on the
motherboard (most likely RAM or Video), or it is set to SOFTWARE
Power-Off Control (Suspend-mode).

The clicking noise you hear is most likely the tiny Piezo speaker beeping
or trying to.

Also sounds like you have the wrong type Power-Switch connected.

Thanks for the input, I'll use the data for when I try the "jinxed" board.

However, what the issue I have now is the fact that after deleting just the one nVidia mobo driver the xp will not run as descibed in the bottom section of my first post.

Any suggestions?
