Most places won't show the specs, they'll just show an ASUS X800XL for sale, and folks will think they are getting an X800XL, when they're not. They'll either be duped by a lower price, or they'll pay the same price as a real X800XL.

Most folks will have no idea that the card is not really an X800XL and will feel no need to check the specs page at ASUS.

The card should be called something other than X800XL, imo. Extreme implies that the card is a faster version. Combining both names on a slower card is undehanded, imo.

Powercolor's Bravo edition cards are a good example of the correct type of name for a slower card.

Yeah, and them someone might think Bravo stang for "the best" and then... LOL!!! The golden rule is: first search, them buy, and make sure you are buying what you want :D

Original poster.

If you purchased the product and it is not as it was specified as, you have a right to return it and get the correct product.

You may even have the right to ask them to pay for the shipping.

If your receipt/invoice shows Geforce 6800GT, you did not get what you paid for.

Do not flash the bios. You do not want to break your video card, do you? Doing the unlock process with RivaTuner (I am not talking about anything else with RivaTuner, just the unlock) will not break your card. Doing a bios flash wrong, *CAN* break your card.

Why do you want to flash?

If you explain why it is that you want to flash, and why you do not want to use Riva, may be people will understand and tell you how to flash.

But, so far, you have not offered any explanation. Riva is the best way for you!

RMA and get what he bought is the very best way for him ;)

Yes, if he decides to RMA. But, I thought he clearly said that he did not want to do that!

ONly one gauy say to not flash the card, and that gay suposes my card as MSI card.. thats not correctly

Hold on here. Just because "Windows" identifies the card as a 6800GT does not mean it is. It sounds like you have the 6800 Apogee which is NOT sold as a 6800GT by Chaintech and should have only 12pipes 5 vertex as standard specs.

If you bought this brand new in the box, and it did not say anything about 6800GT on the box, then you really got what you paid for. But if you can successfully unlock the pipes/shader unit, just use RivaTuner to do it and be happy:)

The thing I would guess is that the card was flashed with the wrong BIOS or something, but then again, the clock speeds were stock for a 6800GT. Well, I think you could go ahead and flash the BIOS, but since you already did it via software, I say, don't worry about it. You're good to go.

Dont flash or unlock it, i know chaintech, i only use them.

That GT and all GT's are meant to be 16pipes, there is obv some prob so RMA it, or take to store you got it from be quicker.

Bummer, bad luck.

That MSI stunt, btw are replacing card for peeps, we will never know if it was intentual or not.

I wouldn't blame your retailer since it looks like a manufacturers trick. ATI played this game with their underclocked cards years before, then Sapphire(?) had the 9800pro bait and switch etc... You should warn your retailer about such low balling tactics from the manufacturer.

http://www.leadtek.com/graphic.html. If you look at Leadteks webpage. There are 2 versions of the AGP 6800GT under the A400 range. The box which doesn't have the sticker on the lower right has the description "Superscalar 12-Pipe GPU Architecture". The one with the "Clock 350/450MHz" label has 16 pipes in its description. So buyer beware!
