Yes you can do a bios mod but its risky since its permenent, I wouldnt risk it, just use riva tuner.

But this is a strange card indeed, it has a GTs clocks but only 12 pipes... never heard of it, but hey it unlocked so your good to go.

sounds like you got one of those "Gamer Edition" pieces of crap. A couple of companies took 6800 cards and fitted them with 256MB of GDDR3, overclocked them a bit, and sell them as an in-between card, but most end up costing the same as the full fledged GT, so they suck. My recommendations? If you can, return it and get a REAL GT. Otherwise, I'd try softmodding it into a 16 pipe solution using rivatuner.

Yes put its permenent meaning once you flash, you cant get it back to 12p, 5v ever again. Are you having problems with riva tuner? I would just contiune to use that.

DO NOT OC OR FLASH THE CARD!

Is this an MSI card? If So there is an actual post (on these forums I think) about MSIs in germany (r something of europe) being sold (By MSI) with only 12 pipes and 5 Vertexs'

Take it back to the store, If you go it online, call them up they should know about it

The thread title says Chaintech so I assume that is the brand and not MSI ;)

I also would not permanently flash the card. I would probably call the company or look up the specs on their site to see if it was supposed to have those pipes locked or if there was some screw-up.

no man, that`s not a msi card, is an Chaintech Apogee blue PCB version.. the card rave 1.6ns gddr3 memory and a NV40 A1 revision.. the windows found a 6800GT card... and the drvers say me the same..

About the riva tunner: the 2 methods for unlock the pipes works fine, but that is no the question.. an RMA from brazil to chaintech on asia is very very much time to whait, but thanks all for the patience and answers.. if everyone can sugest a software and bios version for my atempt to flash.. post here pleas..

I would not bother flashing. If your pipes are unlocked via rivatuner, you are done. Enjoy the card, it's a good one.

ASUS makes no tricks my friend, if you don't know what you're talking about just don't.

So your not going to take the warnings about flashing your card? Numerous people in here have warned you against doing that. And why do you think you don't have the correct bios for your card? Why don't you contact Chaintech and ask them for the latest bios revision number to see if you already have it.

As far as using RivaTuner to unlock your pipes and vertex unit, you are fortunate that it works fine. There is a setting in RivaTuner that makes your changes persistent every time to reboot. Just read the help files included with it.

I'll just say it again for emphasis, "Do Not Flash Your Card" especially if you don't know what you are doing.

Good Luck and I hope you take everyones advice in here.

Why not just RMA and get what you bought rather than avoid your guarantee???

Umm....no. Several of us have told you that we recommend not flashing your card or that flashing is not a good idea. Not just one person, several. If you know what you are doing, carry on, but I honestly don't see the point. Your system detects it as a 6800GT, riva tuner allows full functionality of it, and everything is working appropriately. A BIOS flash may not even solve the issue. If you really want your card to default to 16 pipelines and 6 vertex shaders, instead of resorting to flashing it, just return it to whichever vendor you got it from (or Chaintec directly) and get it replaced with a true 6800GT.

You can use RivaTuner and you will not have to unlock every time you reboot.

Why do you want to flash?

If you explain why it is that you want to flash, and why you do not want to use Riva, may be people will understand and tell you how to flash.

But, so far, you have not offered any explanation. Riva is the best way for you!
