Chains are depressingly expensive

5/8" chain, $20 per ft. I was looking to get a 150-200 foot chain but Christ I'm going to have to look at another option I think.

Pulling trees down. Dont really want to pull the tree down on me. May go to plan B. Pushing trees down.

5/8" chain's pretty damned big - but even a quick google got me down to under $8/foot.

Edit: with free shipping!

Hire a brush company, they'll pay you for any hard salvageable wood. If it's scrap or soft you can toss them a few buck to push it into piles for you. Wait a year or so and have your own burning man.

Thats pretty nice! I started at McMaster and was googling myself. I figured it would be roughly the same as McMaster though, that aint a bad price.

Need to remove the stump. I want the whole damn thing GONE.

And I have probably 30 of the damn things to do. I could top it and use a much shorter chain, but the idea of standing up in a tree with a chainsaw isnt all that appealing to me. I'd rather buy a long arsed chain, hook up and heave ho.

How big are said trees, how close together, and how much room do you have to drop them? When I was doing some thinning of trees on my property, I found that for smaller diameter trees I could use something like this combined with either short lengths of chain, heavy duty tie down straps, or additional cable in conjunction with a chainsaw to easily control the fall without risking injury, etc.

Edit: And as far as the stumps - might be cheaper to rent a backhoe for the day and dig them yourself than buying 200' of chain at $8/foot.

Can get 28k pound edit:manila rope for half that, too. Text

Or item #80064TWNPFT on the same page; 22k pound nylon that's a WHOLE lot lighter and cheaper than chain - $1.86/foot.

what are hooking the chain to because im curious, up rooting a tree isnt exactly easy

also falling a tree without topping it is really easy even in tight areas,

Close enough something like that is an option.

We do have a good length of cable but I dont like working with cable as it tends to break with a hell of a lot more gusto then chain....

we had a tree taken down and the stump removed. cost $200 (and we got a bunch of wood chips).

far better then paying what you want for chain.
