CHA_FAN connector, for the front or rear fan?

I'm planning to get an Asus A8V in the near future. There are three fan connectors on this board. They are called PWR_FAN, CPU_FAN, and CHA_FAN. CPU_FAN is obviously for the CPU fan. I'm pretty sure that PWR_FAN is to monitor the fan in the power supply. Now, the other connector, CHA_FAN, is located on the bottom right portion of the mother board(assuming the motherboard is installed in the case and you're staring at it through a clear plastic side case door). Since most cases need a rear chassis fan I would assume that anything called CHA_FAN would be connected to the rear chassis fan. On the other hand the location of this connector is very near the front chassis fan. Do I connect CHA_FAN to the rear chassis fan or the front chassis fan?

The PWR_FAN and CHA_FAN headers could host any case or PSU fans you want, it'll be fine. Good job on your product research :) If you'd like to use the CHA_FAN header to power a rear ran, a 12-inch/30cm 3-pin extension cable will do the trick, you can get them at many online stores when you're getting your other goodies :)

PWR_FAN will power a fan? I thought it was strictly for monitoring....I have done entirely too much research. Far more than I expected when I first got into this.

Yeah, if you look at page 2-26 of the A8V Deluxe manual, they show it's got +12V power just like the others. All Asus's headers will power fans, so you could route your rear fan to the PWR_FAN header if it reaches there better. Many PSUs have a monitoring wire but you don't need to hook it up... I don't see a lot of point in that myself, not if the PSU has a good-quality fan in it.

I'm planning to use a SeaSonic 350W Super Tornado Revision 3. I believe that there were some fan problems with revision one and two, but none thus far with three. The location of the PWR_FAN connector is convenient for the rear chassis fan, likewise the location of the CHA_FAN connector is convenient for the front chassis fan. CHA_FAN has a feature called Qfan while PWR_FAN does not. Qfan will speed the fan up when the temperatures go up. What exactly Asus is measuring the temperatures of I do not know.

What I'd like to do is connect the rear fan to CHA_FAN and control it with Qfan, and have connect the front fan to PWR_FAN and use a Zalman Fanmate or something to bring the voltage down to 7-9 volts.
*^*^*^*^*

thanks for the reference

There are 2 CHA_FAN connectors on the board. One is toward the front and the other is on the top next to the CPU_FAN connector. The one on the top will monitor and the one in the front will not. Asus Probe will monitor the PSU with most boards but that particular option is replaced with the A8N and monitors the chipset instead so you might as well just power the rear fan with the PWR_FAN connector.

One of the things that i like about the A8N is all the fan connectors.

I intend to use the A8V, not the A8N. The A8V makes no mention of a second CHA_FAN in the PDF manual.

No need to apologize. I just didn't want the tread to die off because of the statement. It appears it has anyway.
