1UP has had the priviledge of operating under the same roof as many wonderful videogame publications over the years -- Electronic Gaming Monthly, Official PlayStation Magazine and Xbox Nation among them -- but none as legendary as Computer Gaming World.

CGW was for many the most comprehensive, honest and accessible source for computer game coverage from its inception in 1981 until its final issue in 2006, and its legacy has remained in our care since then, the source of a lot of nostalgia and discussion amongst our staff.

When it came time to move offices last December, we made the difficult but noble decision to let our beloved CGW archive move on to a brand new home. In all, 1,037 computer games -- along with our near-complete master archive of the magazine itself -- were sent to the incredibly gracious International Center for the History of Electronic Games, so that scholars, museum-goers and the people of the future may enjoy them.

CGW was by far the best of the computer gaming magazines in the 80s and 90s. I still have several of the game of the year issues and a box of the preview CDs.
