It's strange how on a forum composed of people who should know a bit about current technology, everyone thinks that CG can't get close to realism, especially in stills.
I don't think that's the case. I think the sentiment is just that when it comes to human beings (and not inanimate objects), there are certain nuances that still set apart the real thing from a computer generated still.

Its VERY easy for CG to USE and MANIPULATE photographs for textures.
I disagree. You can't just simply map a photograph over a model and expect it to look exactly alike. Skin isn't perfectly opaque- you have to worry about lighting and translucency. Also, the nuances I was referring to aren't just about the textures- someone mentioned the folds of skin around the armpit earlier- it's imperfections like these that aren't so easily replicated.

EDIT: I understand what you're arguing, but I'm just saying that we haven't reached the point in CG where the common person can't tell the difference.

It's not. Her face is very airbrushed, and that kinda makes it look like it is.. but I have never seen CG hair and eyes that look like that. Especially the hair though.

Would love to be proven wrong. 😉

IMHO It's hard to tell whether it's CG, or if it was just airbrushed and photochopped to all hell. In either case, that photo doesn't depict a real girl as you'd see her.

cg, not because of anything on the girl but the dof is all cg like
eh, I thought the depth of focus made it look like a real pic to me. The depth of focus is perfect. It would not be hard to do that with a camera at all.

DOF looks real enough to me but what do I know?!

Koing

the thing about the dof is that how it looks on the right shoulder and how it compares to the left one, it looks somehow off

the whole picture just doesnt look right, too perfect so it must be either 3d or a realy good photoshop work of a photograph

Looks perfectly normal to me. The shoulder in focus is closer to the camera, and almost in the same plane as her face. Same with her breast.

Notice the texture around the creases in her armpit. If it's CG, the artist had better be working somewhere.. known.

How can you tell it's CG?

I think you need to take a closer look.

If it is CG, it is, by far, the best one I have ever seen.

That may not mean much, since I don't sit around and look at CG drawings, but...

Of course it's CG. That's the first attractive asian I have ever seen. It's got to be fake.

ZOIKS! Talk about flamebait! Especially in this community!

Oh well.... it's ATOT.

good point, I figured that the left shoulder was a little closer than the rest of the body

the armpit creases is something that could be added very easily with programs like zbrush
