has anybody ever had this issue before? i havent seen it reported...but anyway...

in both IE 5.5 and 6.0, whenever i try to load up a page in anandtech, whether it be today.cfm or search.cfm, IE thinks im trying to download a file and asks me if i want to open it or save it. i click on open and it says that it cant find any compatible programs that can open it. can someone tell me whats going on?

this doesnt happen to me in netscape, but i dont want to use netscape because it caused a lot of program errors on my computer. i got rid of it three days after instalilng it and everything is fine again.

I have no problems open any of the mentioned pages. IE has never asked me to download, it just opens the page.

thats weird...it's always happened to me . i format quite a few times, too. (i can't decide if i should use win2k or xp)

HMM...that is strange. I visit regularly in 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0 and have never had that happen.

Your registry settings for IE are messed up. Instead of opening the file in the browser, it is trying to download the .cfm file. The registry setting .cfm need to change so the file is opened rathered than trying to be saved. Try a search for "contextedit" on pcmag.com

I've had a similar problem with one of the machines in work, you have a problem with your IE security settings.

To fix it, in I.E. 5.5 click Tools->Internet Options->Advanced (tab), scroll down to where it says Use HTTP 1.1 and ensure it is checked.

There must be an equivalent option in I.E. 6 but because I don't use it you'll have to find it yourself.
