I had them in my garage door openers. They blew out within a couple of months. Probably something to do with the constant on/off and the blinking when the door hits an obstruction or something... Replaced them with regular bulbs, but CFL's everywhere else

Couple that with vibrations (CFLs are quite sensitive to vibrations) and it's a surefire way to kill CFLs.

They are?

I have one in my garage door opener, whose vibrations eat incandescents, and it's been there for at least 4 years.

I have them in every light in my house except my microwave, fridge, and dryer. They have lasted 2 years so far both outside and in the garage. In cold weather they take a few minutes to reach full brightness but I've never had any issue with them otherwise. I pick mine up at Costco.

Same here. It says not to use outside or inclosed but i did that for all out outside lights and they were still goign strong when we sold the house. Now have all CFLs in our new house.

But remember............

Whatever you do............DO NOT...........throw them away in the trash!! :brokenheart:

A question. With the old fluorescent tube lights, I always heard that they take more power to turn on, so that you should leave them on if you are going to be coming in and out of a room, rather than turn them off and on. Does the same principle apply to CFL bulbs? Curious minds must know!

i just really varies
i put a couple cfl's in my outside driveway fixtures a couple years ago and they still work

i just think the quality control isn't there yet to give consistency to CFL's
