CF or MMC or SD????? What to choose?

Can somebody give me the lowdown on the different cards and recommend the best choice for the money??

I'm looking for memory for my Maestro PDA and can use all of the above for storage.

Thanx!

CF is the best right now. SD and MMC cant anywhere near the capacity of CF. Plus CF is cheaper I believe.

SD is an enhanced version of MMC that features encryption, faster transfer, and a little read-only tab on the disk. The thing is the size of a postage stamp, and was made popular by the Palm Pilot, and various ultra-compact digital cameras. Smart Media is currently the most popular choice among mp3 players, but much like SD/MMC/CF, it can be found in all different types of devices also. Compact flash is the memory of choice for most digital cameras due to it being the first to be released, and also it's large size makes it easy to manufacture (ie cheaper), and easier to expand.

CF has reached capacities of 1gb, but expect to be paying one heck of a premium for that capacity. SD/MMC are moving into the 256 MB territory, but since this format is so overpriced, expect to pay about the same amount of money for that capacity as the price of the digital camera. SM is about equivalent to CF in terms of price.

Compact Flash is my favorite. It is cheap, and has large capacities. I always seem to lose my MMC cards.

the Maestro has dual slots right? I would suggest putting an SD/MMC into there for extra memory.. and saving the CF slot for something like a wireless NIC.... but then again, if you don't plan on doing that, you should just go w/ CF somewhere online.. it's the cheapest cost/MB.

as far as speed goes, CF will most likely be faster because it's partially dependant on it's own onboard controller.. whether it's useful in this case or not, i dunno.

lnguyen made a good point. Most likely you will have some type of interface card in the CF slot, so you may want to go with one of the others. Out of the others, I'd go with MMC. SD is worthless in my opinion. It really doesn't have any advantages over other media types.
