CF Card Question(s)

If I am using cf cards in my mp3 player, what is the best type (in terms of speed) to use that doesn't provide more than I can need/notice?

Also, I need about 6 x 1gb cards. Which online retailer provides good deals on these? Thanks.

I normally buy from newegg.com

speed is normally rated in a range of about 12X up to 140X. Read and write speeds may differ in the high speed range. Faster cards may help in data transfer but a decent speed card is plenty for mp3 operation.

1X = 150kB/s
80X = 12MB/s

As far as which brand I personally don't care. Look more a speeds and warranties. I noticed sandisk or kingston to be fairly popular.

Amazon.com usually has some decent prices on CF too. You may also want to consider getting larger cards if you're going to need that many (I think you can find 4GB cards for around $100 now)

Ah ok, hadn't considered that. Do the 4gb ones work with most mp3 players?

You might run into a 2GB limit on some... best to check the specs.

It will just depend on the type of file system the mp3 player uses. If it were to use something like a fat16 file systems it would probably be in the limit of 4gb partitions.

Also I notice that I can get 4 x 1 gb cards for about 80-90 bucks at a certain place but a single 4 gb card costs over 100 easily. Tough choice since I really don't want to clutter up my desk with more cards and potentially lose some.
