Going to give this a maybe. I'm not buying it since I'm no where close to replacing my Nexus 5. But this is an interesting product and the specs look good. 5 inch 1080p phone, possible Snapdragon 800 processor, and it slides into a 9 inch tablet (also 1080p).

I like the screen sizes more this time, 5 inch phone, 9 inch tablet. I think the last ones were a 4.3 inch phone (too small) and 10 inch tablet (too big).

Curious what the off contract price will be.

Another thought just popped into my head. Will apps detect when the device is being used as a phone and give you phone version of apps and then detect when it's in a tablet and give you tablet versions of apps?
 
Asus. Cool stuff.
Zenfone 4/5/6 $100/150/200, with ascending sizes and specs. The 5 really looks like a Moto G killer: 720p screen, 8mp rear shooter, 2ghz dual Atom (is there a dual Bay Trail, or is this Cloverfield+ like in the MemoPad FHD?), and a glove mode no one cares about.

Transformer Book Duet, 13" Haswell i3 convertible running both Android and Windows in either config. $600 with crap 13*7, $700 for 1080p. The key to this is really the size: if it can't get under 3lbs (or really close), no one will want to carry it around for the tablet use.
Edit: oops, 4+lbs. No sale. But, just for you guys, they *are* releasing a 8" 12*8 Win8 tablet with pen. $300+

Because of the 2GHz clock, I assume it's a Clovertrail + 2580. Though for a sub $200 phone that's a lot better than the processor one usually gets. I'm still skittish about running Android on an x86 processor though, just because I don't know what to expect.

I don't need a phone, but for $200, I'm kinda tempted by the 6 inch Zenphone.


The Transformer Book Duet... Ugh, someone needs to make a chart detailing the differences between all these ASUS hybrids. Transformer Book Trio, Transformer Book TX300, and now the Duet. Not sure what's what anymore. The Duet looks okay, $700 for a 1080 Core i3 Ultrabook with an ancient version of Android (what happened with that ASUS?). Running Android and Windows on the same device isn't that important though, so if they could make a version of this without the Android hardware and reduce the price, that would be much better.

Actually, I was thinking the same thing about Windows.

The Galaxy Tab 3, for all its poor value, has had Cloverfield+ for a while, which should have forced most devs to adapt to x86. Btw, Ian's AT post has complete spec comparison for the Zenfone line. The 6 is a nice novelty but with only 1gb RAM and no multiwindow I don't think I'd go for it.

knowing at&t and how they tried to screw the endusers of the atrix lapdock last time (the atrix lapdock is a display/keyboard only dock for the phone, but at&t tried to force you to use a tethering plan)...

wonder what they can manage to screw up this time? require an additional $10/month for this tablet device?

1GB of RAM is expected on something this dirt cheap. I think a mostly stock Android should do well with that and ASUS doesn't seem to bloat their OS much.

No multi-window feature, thank god. That is bloat I wouldn't use, so all the better since it only has 1GB of RAM. 🙂
 
Looks like the spec leaks were all correct. Every Pro device is 25*16. No word on AMOLED.
 
Samsung released an Android tablet that looks like Windows 8? And it's called the Pro? Why didn't they just release a Windows 8 tablet like everybody else? Stupid.
 
Also, how are these Windows 8 tablets when it comes to battery life? Are they getting 10 hours like iPad?

Pretty close. The Surface Pro 2 hits 6-7h and it's a 4th gen i5. The Z3 Atoms in 8" can hit about 8h. I'm sure a 10" Z3 Atom can hit 10h but I don't think anyone's done extensive battery life testing.

well, the asus T100 (bay trail released in oct) can do 10h. still can't beat iPad though

t100 - 31wHr + 10.1" 1366x768
iPad Air - 32.9wHr + 9.7" 2048x1536

The X1 Carbon looks pretty fantastic...sadly I bought this 13" MBP 2 months ago. Would've rather gone Lenovo at the time, but oh well.

The Zenfone 5 sounds interesting...wish they would say more about US release. Been considering a Moto G to bridge the gap between my Skyrocket (S2) and new phone...probably still ending up with a Nexus 5 though.

This looks pretty nice.

I was thinking 8" might be too small, but my lady just bought a 8" Samsung Android tablet, nice little tablet (I prefer windows though), but the size is actually useable - even with my tired old eyes.
 
Probably not a bad idea to wait for the ASUS 8 inch tablet. Still can't buy a stylus for the Dell and the ASUS will probably be out by the time Dell catches up to all the bad pens they are having to replace.
 
I am liking the new price points in Android phones that Motorola has established. $200 mid-range, $350 high end. Along with the rise of T-mobile pricing model, I think the smartphone ecosystem is getting to where it should have been long time ago.
