Certain web sites will not work

This problem only happens on my Vista Home Premium machine - certain websites simply do not load in FF or IE7. For example www.expedia.com and www.expansys.com won't load, but on my wife's computer that sits right next to mine, there are no problems.

All 3 computers are behind the same connection and router. The one difference is that mine is the only machine running Vista.

I have tried completely disabling Vista's built-in Firewall, to no avail..

Any ideas?

Not sure if Vista has this like XP does but there a repair button in the network connections status tab. This should clear out everything and might help solve your problem

If I ping www.expedia.com, I get:

Ping request could not find host www.expedia.com. Please check the name and try again.

If I go to http://216.251.114.10, the expedia page opens with the IP in address bar. However, if I ping 216.251.114.10 I get request timed out.

I cannot get to Expansys' website via IP though, as 213.160.118.2 seems to auto-forward to the www address. I cannot ping this IP address either.

What do you mean by that? I have one in \windows\system32\drivers\etc ... and it says "127.0.0.1 localhost" and "::1 localhost"

Ok - You have a DNS issue.

Both of those IP addresses DENY ICMP, so the pings *should* fail.

Try pinging 4.2.2.1, I'm sure that will work.

Like chaoticpinoy said - This is probably a hosts file issue.

I forgot what I did to fix this, but it wasn't the hosts file.

I think it turned out to be something with my Linksys router? Once I upgraded the firmware, all the sites worked. Go figure.
