Certain songs won't play over DLNA??

I like to stream music over DLNA between my phone (HTC Thunderbolt) and my TV (Panasonic Viera ST30). It works great for 95% of my songs, however when I try to play certain tracks something goes wrong and they won't play. As a result my TV goes back to whatever input it was using previously and I get very frustrated.

I've noticed that this occurs whenever I try to play a song I've purchased from Amazon, however it is not limited to just these tracks. The vast majority of my mp3s play just fine. I should add that the problem tracks play just fine on my phone itself, just not on DLNA.

As far as I can tell there are 3 variables here: my phone, my TV, and my music. I will be getting a DLNA capable receiver next weekend so at that point I will be able to see whether or not it is the TV. I do not have any other device which can be used as the DLNA server/source. However since the vast majority of my songs work I suspect it is something about the music files which is causing the problem.

Have any of you experienced or heard of something like this? Do you have any suggestions on how I should proceed?

Thanks.

What DLNA server are you using?

What DLNA server are you using?

Thanks for the quick reply. I suppose my phone (HTC Thunderbolt) would be the server as that is where my songs are stored. (I'm sorry if this does not answer your question, I am not very familiar with the technical parlance of DLNA.)

Check the format of the problem files to ensure they're actually MP3s. Some MP3 decoders have problems with certain bitrates, CBR versus VBR, or sampling rates, so see if the problem files have any of these attributes in common.

It could also be size related, or maybe some weird meta-data the TV doesn't expect.

If you can, try copying the problem files to a PC and play them from there. You should be able stream them to your TV from Windows Media Player.

Thanks for your help. I set up my computer to be a DLNA server and the problem files play just fine now. So I suppose my phone is the culprit here?

So after reading some more about using the Thunderbolt as a Dlna server I decided to download an app called Twonky, which on paper should not add any functionality to my phone. However, for whatever reason the songs I was not able to play worked just fine with this app. I still don't know what to think.

Mods, you can probably move this to the mobile devices forum.
