certain monitors for certain processors?

just bought a dell 1905fp lcd monitor and it works great but my brother is extremely crazy about getting the max refresh rate and best resolution all the time. it also drives him nuts that the pc does not recognize the monitor its says "Plug and Play Monitor".

so ofcoarse he tries anyway possible to get rid of it and after he finally he cant he starts bitching at me because he went to the dell website and our processor ( AMD 64 ) isnt listed on the list of supported processors for this particular monitor.

does it honestly make a difference what processor i have if i wanna use this monitor because no one has ever told me about something like this

oh and i dunno if this has to do with the monitor but he brought it up that BF2 stopped working(doesnt start up after that big BF2 logo)but my other games work, and everybody knows its an already buggy game, could that be a sign of non-compatability?
 
1. Processor has almost NOTHING to do with the monitor. It's the graphics card you should be looking at.
2. BF2 - Once again, check your graphics card for compatibility. And make sure you updated it to the latest patch. I think it's 1.02 🙂
 
ok good cause i was farly sure that my processor had nothing to do with it and but he just got me a lil worried is all

and my video card is definatly compatable, i have a eVGA 6800GT and have played the game for a long time without any problems but now there is this stupid crap, they really gotta fix this game up
 
Did you try and download drivers for the monitor?

And as Bona Fide said, it has absolutely nothing to do with your processor.
 
Tell him to quit his whining and be glad you didn't get an IBM T221 that has a max "refresh" of 40Hz (and that's only attainable when you drive it with two dual-link DVI connections!). In other news, since LCDs don't flicker, the refresh rate doesn't really matter, as long as it can put stuff on the screen faster than the human vision system can easily discern. You know all this, but evidently he isn't clued in yet. Tell him to go post his bitching on the Video forum at AnandTech, and maybe the subsequent ownage will convince him. 😉

BTW, even the Samsung 213T (which may cost a bit more) shows up as a "lowly" Plug and Play monitor. Besides, there's no reason to load monitor drivers anyway, as long as your computer's graphics card can pick up maximum refresh and resolution settings directly from the monitor (which is what happens with 99% of video cards and monitors these days), and any color profiles included with said drivers are generic and probably not worth much if you really wanted color accuracy.
