Another key thing to remember is that when you get into the higher stratospheres of income, your "utilization" of national defense (HUGE part of the budget) is MUCH, MUCH higher than the average person's.
An Average Working Stiff needs protection for himself, his wife, his 2.2 children, his finances, his cars, his house, and the belongings therein. A given Average Working Stiff is also extremely unlikely to be specifically targeted by "the enemy" or "the terrorists" for any given reason, and rightfully so, because he is so unbelievably average. He really doesn't need much military protection in his own right, because there's not much to protect.
A person making $10M per year likely has multiple houses, multiple cars/trucks/buses/boats/planes/trains/helicopters, multiple places of business, multiple employees, multiple large bank accounts, multiple large investment accounts, etc., all of which need protecting in order to continue that guy's existence as he knows it. Due to his large amount of assets, he is also more likely to be targeted, and therefore more likely to need military protection.
This is a good point. I believe the term is "useful idiots." It is people idolizing and supporting the interests of their social superiors, even when those interests are against their own personal interests. It may come from some pack mentality; latching on to the strong to feel better and maybe reap benefits by riding their coattails.
It may be puzzling or funny when this happens in economic matters. But it is very bad when it happens with political or legal matters. The "kindred spirit millionaires" become goose steppers doing their masters' bidding.
It's one thing to be willing to pay your fair share of a higher tax that will help society, and quite another to send only your part of it that will do effectively nothing.
But you haters of democracy don't have a clue about how people can cooperate to get things done with an elected government.
If you had your ideology's way, we could get rid of public schools, libraries, government-provided medical care, subsidies for public transit, public parks, etc.
Because they think that the group of people in their income bracket are not paying enough compared to those making less, and want to help those making less.
Raising the tax rate has an effect. One person sending more doesn't.
The fact he'd pay more simply shows his dedication to his position, and his motive.

How much did you pay in taxes last year? How would you be affected by Obama's change? Me, I would be marginally affected. I'm not pissed about it, because I realize it is for my own good.

Some people actually contribute to things they believe in -- I believe in the NRA and I have given money to them on numerous occasions. I have also monetarily contributed to civilians who have been hurt in Iraq because they were caught in the crossfire. Now, it may not be a lot compare to what "rich" people have. But its something.
What just amazes me is that people who feel so passionately about something -- e.g., helping the government by giving them more money, but yet hypocritically chose not to when called out to do it personally.
In any case, whatever playa... "Backbone of this country".. "Gone to school".. "risen through the ranks.." You go girl!!! hahahaha... Keep on talking.. because, that's all liberals do now a days.. except of course kill business and ruin the country..
