Oh the other hand. Hey, great idea.. everyone should work for bums.. I'm sure the salaries going to be great and the medical benefits, excellent.. Freaking liberals...

edit:

Loser company?? Are you talking about the automotive companies that are always asking for a handout or a company that is trying to make it without government bailouts? Compared to the automotive companies, Blockbuster looks "golden"..

Yeah, your boss would just roll up shop if he was taxed 5% more on incremental income. Please. My wife and I DO make that much and I wouldn't stop working, nor would anybody else at that rate. It's a scare tactic and a pretty fucking moronic one.

I'm not talking about BBI compared to GM. I'm talking about it relative to Netflix.

If that is the case, why don't you contribute more instead of bitching? 5% seems like a lot of money to me. I do know a lot of people who make a lot of money. A lot of times they tell me that they get tired of the rat race. Some of them even eventually quit. I know more would if you told them they would be taxed even more. Heck, some of them would even cut down on their ridiculous hours if they knew Uncle Sam.. I mean Brother number 1, Obama was going to steal more of their money. They would probably spend the extra time with their family

Ultimately though, the question remains. Instead of bitching, why don't _you_ do your part since you are so rich and have so much money to spare? Why aren't you sending an extra 5% to Uncle Sam? After all, the bailouts aren't going to pay for themselves.

For me, I am relatively poor. Actually, if you want you can just send me the extra 5%. PM please. Or else you can shut the F up!!!! ;-P

With one hand you stuff your face with food, with the other you want to take food away from others. Hypocrisy...

You fail. A 5% higher top tax bracket does not mean you'll be spending an extra 5% on taxes. It only means your income in that top bracket will be taxed an extra 5%.

This is in response to Cad's business owner letter. Not every rich person wants less taxes. In fact, some, like the netflix CEO and Warren Buffet want to be taxed MORE. Yes, some people are only motivated by money, but for some, they're motivated by the challenge of a job, or bettering society with a superior product or service. In fact, there is a group of rich folks who are fighting AGAINST the repeal of the estate tax (led by Bill Gate's father), because they don't want to see America turn into a bigger Plutocracy than it already is.

Just to dispel the myth that rich folks are ONLY in it for the money (well, maybe republicans are :p) and that raising marginal tax rates will discourage work.

What is stopping him from giving more to the IRS??!?!?!?!?!?! Why do these people always want their neighbors to pay more as well?

Most learned people understand the tax code is regressive and those with a conscience feel bad about it hence the Buffets or the world questioning the fairness but obviously most don't feel this way and fund 'think tanks' like Heritage and others to keep it that way.

Oh rich one, will you not spare some money for those who are not so well off? I am waiting for your small donation to the "help eleison bailout fund." Obviously, you can also send the money directly to the US government since this "incremental" amount means nothing to such a rich and powerful liberal like yourself.

Liberals -- when the rubber hits the road. Their words do not match their deeds.

Like I say, "With one hand you stuff your face with food, with the other you want to take food away from others. Hypocrisy.." Its quite sad really..

You'll have to excuse him, Limbaugh told him to quit his job because Obama will tax him more (he makes 250K remember?) and then he can spend more time with his family. In a soup kitchen.

On a serious note, I don't agree with Obama's additional taxing of the rich and think that a flat tax is a little more fair. The money has to come from somewhere I suppose.

It's quite obvious you didn't read the "letter" if you think this is a "response" to that. It's not.

Also as others have noted - he is free to send in more money if he wishes. But just because he claims he wants to(but for some reason doesn't...go figure) it means everyone should be forced to? Only in the mind of a liberal....

He wants to pay only what he legally owes, but wouldn't mind if what he legally owes is increased somewhat. Only the mind of a conservative wouldn't get this.

Yeah!

Now this is true "Country First" stuff. I want America to succeed, not fail like butt-boy.

I use roads and infrastructure every day, and I know it's a privilege to have been born in this country (a pure accident of fate)...so in tough times...I'm going to help as best I can, not cry like a pussy.

Yeah for sure, he needs to be knocked down a peg, I mean no "real" bootstrapper would ever agree to pay more taxes right?

Like that weak, lazy asshole Warren Buffett, he's a phony too.
I don't recall mentioning Buffet, do you?

No you didn't, but I'm puzzled as to why you felt the need to discredit this guy's opinion, he's a rich guy who doesn't mind paying more taxes.

I was giving an example of someone else who is super rich and feels he doesn't pay enough in taxes.

You're saying his money doesn't mean as much because by your definition he came into it, "quite easily".

I'm saying that's a ridiculous assertion.

I'm not seeing the point of your argument. Typically, your return on taxes paid becomes less beneficial as your make more. Maybe you are just for wealth redistribution then I do understand.

I am not so much for redistribution as I am for people paying for their own country's success. Part of this comes down to being a bit more egalitarian and realizing how good you have it and how others do not. Buffet's perspective is that we fortunate ones (all Americans) won the "Ovarian Lottery" and are lucky enough to be born in the country that other tax dollars, lives, and sweat, have created. Thus, we all should try to help those who aren't as fortunate.

Does that mean I am not greedy? I am in investment banking, I have worked for 9 years, 4 in under, 2 in grad, and 3 studying the CFA, to get to where I am. However, I also realize that some people do need help and should get it.

I also realize that the government should help out sectors that are in trouble, for the benefit of everybody.

One key thing that people do not realize is that helping out the less fortunate enures to the benefit of the more fortunate. How? It prevents a complete corruption and evenual destruction of society, in which case the lower classes raise up and take the higher classes wealth.

Frankly, I'm more than willing to keep people less fortunate happy so I can go on living the way I want.

Funny. I'd love to see what republicans have contributed more than Gates and Buffet.

I've been making the same argument for a while now - there should an extra tax bracket for people over $1M - $5M annual income (whether payroll or cap. gains). This follows though from the marginal value (utility) of money - the more you make, the less a $1 is worth to you.

Maybe you should talk to all those people who got laid off and ask them if there bosses were rich or poor?

That whole argument is retarded at best - no rational person will voluntarily contribute money to anything w/o any sort of return (includes charity, you're buying feeling good about yourself).

Argument for a better tax policy is IN NO WAY connected to the fact that you should voluntarily send more money to the IRS. It's simply an argument for a better and more efficient tax policy.

If i run a hedge fund and pull in $200M comp in capital gains, taxing me at 50% doesn't make any palpable difference to me. There's nothing that $100M can't buy and $200M could - the utility of those two sums of money is virtually identical.

That being said, I think obama's definition of rich being 200K+ is misguided at best; that amount of money puts you in middle class in high cost of living areas.

This week, President Obama proposed imposing a $500,000 compensation cap on companies seeking a bailout. It?s a terrible idea. We all want the taxpayers? money returned, and capping compensation at bailout recipients will just make it that much harder for those boards to hire and hold on to the executives who can lead their companies to compete and thrive.

Perhaps a starting place for ?tax, not shame? would be creating a top federal marginal tax rate of 50 percent on all income above $1 million per year. Some will tell you that would reduce the incentive to earn but I don?t see that as likely. Besides, half of a giant compensation package is still pretty huge, and most of our motivation is the sheer challenge of the job anyway.

Instead of trying to shame companies and executives, the president should take advantage of our success by using our outsized earnings to pay for the needs of our nation.

How did this idiot get to be CEO of Netflix? Where does he get off saying that bailout money CEO's shouldn't be capped after receiving such huge risk mitigation (i.e. bailout). IMO that is a fair trade, assurance that your company won't fail through injected tax money but in exchange for certain restrictions (e.g. capped pay) so it's not distributed/abused by a corrupt few (like it already has been).

I'm guessing that Krangel has more than a few friends at top bailout companies and they had big plans to plunder taxpayer money for themselves. This moronic idea of "taxing everyone" is just whining over spilled milk. I haven't seen anyone from the O admin saying that ALL CEO pay is going to be capped like the Clinton era. Of course he's right when he says that companies will just offer larger bonuses and stock options, but correct me if I'm wrong: how are larger stock options going to be taxed by his proposal?
