Center Speaker problem

I have the Logitech Z-5300e 5.1 speaker system running on the DFI-SLIDR onboard sound chip (nforce 4 audio 😛 ). My problem is, my front center doesn't work in most instances. It won't play sound in windows media player, and several other games. It does work in half-life 2, but not in Far Cry. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running the 6.14.0457.0000 driver for nforce 4 audio (according to dxdiag)

Most games/media players/etc are upsampled from 2.0/2.1 to 5.1 by possibly the audio card driver.
Often they go from stereo (2 ch) to basically repeating the L and R sounds in both F and R speaker, and there'sno use for the middle speaker.
FC and HL2 are probably set to 5.1 output, so obviously they are outputting 5.1 and not being re-done by the driver.

I had this problem. Turns out I plugged the actual plug into the wrong spot on my sound card. It was hooked into the speaker spot. Chack to make sure yours are in the right spot.

My system features a "matrix" mode, which supposedly simulates surround sound from non-surround audio. Enabling this feature will make the middle speaker work, but at the cost of quality from the two rear speakers.
